northeast USA routed to STRANGE PLACE!
5 13 ms 15 ms 15 ms be-58-ar01.needham.ma.boston.comcast.net [68.85.162.161]
6 19 ms 19 ms 19 ms be-7015-cr01.newyork.ny.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.90.217]
7 19 ms 20 ms 18 ms be-31-pe01.60hudson.ny.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.85.226]
8 27 ms 17 ms 17 ms 50.248.119.210
9 19 ms 20 ms 18 ms 209.197.17.5
10 44 ms 168 ms 45 ms 6-3.r1.dc.hwng.net [209.197.0.216]

i am tracing a route from southeast massachusetts to ashburn virginia official servers.
for the game counter-strike global offensive.

HOP 10 IS NEW.
never seen this in my life.

Prior to the new hop10.

Connection Latency was 25-35ms stable to ashburn virginia official servers.
now its pinging 65-80ms to ashburn virginia.
(sorry the tracert just times out after hop 10)

the ip addresses i have ping are all official valve servers.
community/private servers ping exactly as they should.

what is the deal?

the company HOP10 comes to on google is
"Highwinds Network Group"

i have never heard of this, and want to know is this some attack? spyware? hack? surviellance?
what is it?

i contacted isp, and on october 1st, i will begin next step to resolving this problem.

in the mean time, i want to know from others in the community.
or a moderator, or valve people, to know this is a problem for gaming.
because it jacks up the ms latency.. and im not sure exactly
why it needs to route through this place...
it seems fishy.

any tips, ideas would be appreciated.

later.

hwng is highwinds network group and partner of Valve and a dozen other nameable companies.

http://www.highwinds.com/en

your ISP is probably not be able to fix the latency issues, that is on Valves end on the line.

70ms to asburn va from southeast massachusetts is not acceptable.
(prior to yesterday since csgo release, ashburn va was always 25-30ms)

i will simply not play official servers anymore.

(current non official latencies)
45ms chicago, 15-20ms nyc. 45ms atlanta.

(official servers)
60-70ms ashburn 80+ms atlanta

what advantage does "high winds network group" have?
it does nothing beneficial for me.

it has only increased my latency by 2x
and apparently streaming my monitor to unknown devices..
so just no... no.

will gladly do whatever i can to keep that ip out of my tracerts.

looks like i'm going to have to ride the tier tech train at comcast this week...

in the meantime i will just play at non-official servers.

also this highwinds group...
i want nothing to do with them.

all they have done is make my internet worse.

and apparently they're streaming my video to unknown devices...

so simply. no.

i will consider legal action.

i did not give this highwinds network group permission
to stream my data to unknown remote devices.
now i will begin recording proof.

Please update us on your legal action against Valve for providing official servers for CSGO.

Yeah, well to put it bluntly, too bad.

Valve use them to provide content delivery services. So you have to connect to them, because they're the ones providing valve's content.

If it's slower, it's probably just you hit a congested part of their network and hopefully it's temporary.

As for your legal action, remember to file against cloudflare, akamai and all the other content delivery networks around.

highwinds is is Valves CDN provider, since ages. Valve host their crap on their servers.

if you need a lesson in infrastructual networking, feel free to contact me with your location, i will find a good course for you.

you don't need any education in law, that is already proven to be failed.

Sheesh, you kids today, whining about your 70ms pings. Sit down and let grampa tell you about *real* latency.

I remember when 9.6k & 14.4k modems were the fastest you could get. :)

I remember being in college and the teachers giving us the new number you could dial in to if you had a 2400 baud modem.

hello. thanks for all the warm replies.
my issue is currently resolved at the moment.
pinging 27ms-38ms ashburn virginia.
(its normal)

and 40-50ms to atlanta.
(normal)

understand, i have never in my life seen that company while playing valve games.
and the site for the company says on its homepage "stream to any device."

so when i start playing a game i've played for decades,
see 2x higher latency, run a tracert and see the troublesome hop
advertising "streaming" i become concerned.

glad its fixed though.
i can get back to enjoying a great game.

and i love valve. always have. always will.

thanks all.
and enjoy.

Kind.

and yeah, i can get :steamsalty:
but not always.

i understand all your posts, and know i typed some irrational things.
but understand. the nerd rage. ;)

lol

later all.

thread can be closed.
