Biggest advice to you is to avoid competitive mode or just try it first and quit if you can't enjoy it anymore. Play it first, maybe you'll be able to shrug it off since it's just a game and you have to accept that many kids are playing it as well lol.
I've basically never bothered with competitive gaming.
It's not just a case of avoiding the cutthroat competitive modes, but also the time of day you play, what servers (if applicable) you find that you like and so on.
Basically, much like anything else, tinker around, have a bit of fun and find out what ones work for you.
Cheaters generally tend to avoid slow-paced, tactical games, and prefer fast-paced shooters.
There are going to be exceptions of course, and you'll find cheaters in the more tactical games as well, but the problem somehow feels...less.
Some of the games that have gotten most of my attention recently, such as Squad, Rising Storm 2: Vietnam, MechWarrior Online (not a traditional shooter but still fills that experience), Planetside 2, and the survival game I'm currently playing called Deadside, all seem to have almost no issues with cheaters.
Arcade-like shooters like Valve games, and popular "meme" games like Fortnite and PUBG, are going to see way more incidences of cheating. The last time I played CS:GO with a friend, there was someone cheating at least once in every two competitive matches.
Games where the TTK (time-to-kill) is higher and/or instant kills are impossible due to big HP pools/armor/shields (Mechwarrior, Planetside 2), where there is suppression and medical aid (Squad, Vietnam, Planetside 2), where you have to put in some work before even being able to kill anyone (e.g. by searching for guns in survival games where like Deadside) are all less fun for cheaters, who just want to pop off a 360-no-scope on you, play an air horn sound over voice, and make you rage. Games with a lot of counter-play in the form of vehicles or air support and games that support lots of players per engagement (Squad, Vietnam, Planetside 2 are all good examples) also have fewer cheaters, because cheaters won't benefit much from their cheats in an environment where hundreds of players are shelling each other, or in situations where they can't get a headshot on you because you're in a jet, but if they get their own jet they suddenly have to deal with a dozen lock-on missiles, etc.
Basically, avoid really popular meme games, and games that revolve around death matches between small-sized teams (like CS:GO) where a single player cheating has a huge impact.

Dont look for or expect cheaters.
Have the mindset of no one cheats, until its obvious. Then in most games cheaters are so rare in effect that it does not matter.
Good times, only in battlefield.
