FedEx is the company that mishandled/misplaced your delivery.
So, their support should be your target. They handed over the parcel.
As i said earlier, leaving for groceries when you know the package is coming is kinda stupid if you live somewhere where it's legal to leave packages at the door or give it to a neighbor without notice. Of course people will steal it.
IDK if your building have cameras, does it? If it does contact your building manager like I said before, and get the camera recording, if it catches driver leaving with your package in hand, then that right there is proof you can file as stolen agasint FedEx, as well proof enough for Steam to issue refund, or replacement with no question ask.
I would guess your best bet here is to lay it on FedEx heavily as it's THEIR responsibility to PROVE it was delivered as claimed.
If they cannot, then they are liable.
If they can, then you can do as another has suggested - ask if there's any CCTV for you to get access to and see if that turns anything up.
For the future, if you're having things that are valuable delivered, consider getting your own cameras - they're dirt cheap these days.
But can you prove you didn't receive it? Cause people all the time say they didn't get their package yet they did and are just trying to get another one. Again not saying this is the case.
It's going to be a long process to find out what happened to it. And knowing the process it's usually the customer who gets screwed.
That kind of depends on the delivery.
Can't speak for how FedEx handles it, though.
If the parcel was insured, the sender has to talk with the delivery company and make a claim. They will then reimburse their customer or send a replacement.
I hope they use an insured delivery for 1000+ bucks worth of electronics.
The bruden of proof is on Fed EX to show they DID deliver it. If they can do that then you take it to gathering evidence to see if someone stole it.
That's how burden of proof works.
And it seems once delivery is made, FedEx doesn't care anymore even though they'll promise to make things right. If you have to call in to get help or place the responsibility of a missed delivery on them, get names, call back numbers, and claim numbers, and then don't stop bothering them about it. They will hope you just go away or deal with the shipper directly. They don't want to talk to end customers at all if they can avoid it.
Apartment buildings seem to be the worst for them. OP might be surprised to find out that their package was delivered to a neighbor, especially in complexes where addresses can be similar. For instance, my old apartment number was #308 and every building had a #308, including building 4100, 4010, and 4110. You can guess how many of those buildings I've found my packages delivered to. If that's the same case, you're then dependent on the honesty and morality of your neighbors. I was lucky to have a few good neighbors who brought my packages to me. I was even capable of paying it forward once when I had a package of theirs delivered to my door.
tl;dr: Stay on top of FedEx and don't let them off the hook.
I ended up getting some items multiple times, the Driver got fired, and now because Amazon couldnt rely on DHL, they have their own Delivery Service here.
That's what I don't quite understand.
In the EU it's very clear: the sender has all the risk. They are the one who entered a contract with the delivery company. If you don't get your parcel, they haven't delivered and it's on them to rectify the situation.
But yeah, that's Europe. Although I can't believe it's that different in the US.
Honestly, I would bother BOTH until either FedEx gets you the package or tells you what happened to it or Steam support takes responsibilty and gets it sorted out with FedEx because they didn't lose *your* package, but *theirs*.
*You* are just the idiot who has the hassle and is given the run-around.
