Why is the word fuchsia censored?
I was reading a guide of mine and came upon a censored word. Wait a minute, I thought. I don't remember writing anything offensive, especially in a guide, and more so when it was an in-game item. Seems now Steam thinks it's an offensive (?) word that has to be censored.

The word in question: A colour, bright pink, sounds like few-sha. Like Xuchsia, if you replace the X with an F.

Strange things happen sometimes, my guess is that the filter tries to apply to multiple language which can sometimes lead to weird results. For a long time I noticed the word 'perse' being banned, also for no apparent reason.

Because no one gave the one creating the word list the "you never go full ♥♥♥♥♥♥" speach

That's naughty word for "butt" in finnish. That's why it is/was censored.

My guide language is set to English, so I would hope that a more specific English language filtre would apply. Maybe it's the connotation with the F word and has become some (new) childish/pubescent banter? One can only wonder...

Replace the H with a K and it becomes apparent. Someone got crazy on the filter and now anything that resembles ♥♥♥♥ will be censored.
It's a great example of why fuzzy filter lists are bad.

Unless you mean a very obscure colour that's not a word. It's "per se" "in itself"

Fuzzy filtres are the worst. And teenagers too... :P

True, but it's also often used as a single word nowadays.

You also have people say "here, here" instead of "hear, hear" or mixing up their, there, they're and you're and your. That doesn't make it right.

Depends on who is using it. In the Netherlands this version has even been adopted by national newspapers.

Sometimes a language is open to changes, and the same applies for this example.

My dutch isn't the best but:
Volgens de officiële spelling is alleen per se juist: in twee woorden en zonder accent aigu.

reads for me as "there is only one official way writing it". ;)

its kind of like the word A S S but in finnish thats why

Still, perse (which no longer appears to be censored) has this meaning, even if just in Finnish (even wiktionary mentions it, among other definitions). Whereas F-uch-sia only means the colour and/or the plant.

Censoring specific words, the best kind of useless thing to be done when more popular words will just take their place.
