what is akamaihd.net and akamai.net what dose it have to do with steam?
i blocked these domains off my network and steam community did not come up properly i had to unblock them to get this site to load. is steam to cheap to use its own servers? it looks like facebook is using it to. if every one is using these sites then i found the worst vanability knowen to the internet to date. if some one wanted to they can down those 2 sites and it would have a massive effect on every site that uses them. i sniff my dns and log it on a daily basis to check for security issus. after doing a refresh this is what poped up as soon as i did it. 2 questions what are those 2 sites and why is steam using them?

adding a . or a - after steamcommunity.com is used frequently by scam sites to confuse people. Your log added a . and the other link probably gets flagged since users normally do not link directly to files on the cdn so community- normally isn't an issue.

edit: also looks like quote marks get used too lol

its a server cacheing service. lots of companies use it ,it probably hosts all the images or something.
valve will host the all the account credentials/pricing/webpage structure and this akamai service will host the pictures.
it reduces load on valve servers.

yes i got 1,130,623,355 ip's blocked and several domains blocked. including .edu due to a lot of collages and universitys have infected servers. there is a total of around 4.2 billion IPv4 addresses on the internet. networking is fun. :)

Akamai is a content hosting provider. They're well known. Lots of big sites use them.

Akamai is actually running something called a "content delivery network", or CDN.

A quote from Wikipedia[en.wikipedia.org] should describe it nicely:

Akamai's content delivery network is one of the world's largest distributed computing platforms, responsible for serving between 15 and 30 percent of all web traffic.[6] The company operates a network of servers around the world and rents capacity on these servers to customers who want their websites to work faster by distributing content from locations close to the user. Over the years their customers have included Apple, Facebook, Bing, Twitter, eBay and healthcare.gov. When a user navigates to the URL of an Akamai customer, their browser is redirected to one of Akamai’s copies of this website, almost entirely invisible to the vast majority of its users.

No they are not.
Akamai is a content delivery network that hosts static files for a whole bunch of different websites. Reading the thread or doing a little research instead of making baseless claims might help in future.

my bad
Don't use gambling sites, but it's pointless to curse the network on which they have a presence.

Some programs, I think autodesk trials for example , secretly install an akami peer to peer style program which eats up your bandwidth.

You have no idea what Akamai is and what they do. Read the other responses above.
