So, the disadvantage gog has is higher pricing coupled with no Steam keys. The advantage they have is drm free, if you care about that, and older games not available elsewhere. That is not really a recipe for huge success, but they are managing to survive.
So yeah, seeing the same thing as you do.
Yeah, agreed on that.
9/10 times their prices match Steam, even during sales. .5/10 times their prices are higher. The rest is when their prices are lower.
At least from my experience.
A lot of the games that I tend to look up are comparitive.
But if you take the time to have a wider look you can see there are these examples.
THat's literally not what GOG is.
It's 100% not a gray market.
Lets say for example... if in 2025, GTA 6 was also released on GOG at the same time as on steam and epic for the same price. I would 100% buy the GOG version but sadly this won't take place due to GOG pro-consumer approach, so we gamer's have less choice in my opinion.
Add to that they are DRM free. That makes the games your property, if you download and store them somewhere.
Their launcher can even automatically import and start Steam, UBISOFT, EGS and Origin games. Allthough the launcher is clunky and slow.
Gog have done an excellent job over the years not just getting the rights to sell old games and get them working on modern systems (ensuring that they weren't lost to time). But also because you can easily back them up without DRM, it means you get even MORE chance of them not disappearing any time soon.
I wonder if half the games that are older on here would be here if it weren't for them, or if we'd get half as much interst in remasters and reissues from the likes of NightDive.
Together, Gog and Steam are the only choices. And itch.io and Humble Store, occasionally.
Epic and Origin and uPlay are hot garbo.
