Besides, who are you to be judge, jury, and executioner on the votes of other people? Especially virtual votes?
If these awards had a significant effect on my personal life I'd more than likely be worried about them. They don't There are far worse things happening in the world to worry about the most innovation game or the labor of love award.
Reality is far more important than a video game award.
As for your last comment ... I'd be willing to bet there are people out there who didn't like Baldur's Gate 3 and didn't think it deserved its wins. Are you going to crucify them as well?
I voted for Baldur's Gate because I was afraid Fifa would win. Also in many cases I voted for the worst options because everytime a game wins, they raise prices a few weeks later (it happened in the past 2 years, the devs release some shi**y in-game content after they win steam awards as excuse to raise prices). To me it feels like we're voting to choose who is gonna take more money from us.
And I feel mad Steam didn't give us a Steam Awards badge.
imagine starflop raising its price
We basically saved Ramnant, a game I don't really play, but people seem to be enjoying. You're welcome. (Of course I only count as 1 vote, but people need to see what is going on and I hope many that voted for Starfield also did for this reason)
It's been a while since the last time the gaming industry actually respected us.
There are users who creates several fake/joke game reviews, sharing cooking recipes and begging for likes and Steam awards for Steam points. And the same people are able to vote for the Steam Awards. Soooo, no wonder the results are ... well, bad.
Or had been heard of by more people.
They are more likely to vote for a name they recognize, rather then a game they have never heard of.
Yet, we are told not to listen to professional ones too, as those are all rigged as well.
May as well just take them all as the entertainment they are meant to be!
These awards served their purpose alright!
A game like Deep Rock Galactic isn't going to win against Red Dead 2, a game with 60 million copies sold. And a bunch of indie games aren't going to win over Starfield. These behemoths will have such an infinitely larger player base that there will inherently be 100 times more people voting for them simply because those are the games they have played out of the nominees.
