doing this once in while will have to consequences .. but ... there are people that buy a dozen games and then start refunding them as they try them out, resulting in as many of refund requests.
... and that is completely unnecessary in this day and age. on nearly every game there is enough independent footage and reports on it shortly after its release that goes beyond the store page material ... and that should be enough to assess a tendency to like a game enough to buy it or to dodge it, sometimes it isn't though and then Steams refund policy is a really uncomplicated safety net ... it is just not a trampoline.
as for refund restrictions:
as it has not changed ...
you get refund reply emails containing 2 levels of warnings before the refund ability will be disabled for ya, which will be also expressed in a refund reply email.
there are no hard numbers on those.
in the past people might have overlooked those warnings as they were just additional sentences in the very same looking email. dunno if that was changed to make those more visible but personally, mass refunding is a special people issue, no amount of pointing at things will prevent this from happening.
Sure, feel free to call it that, those mean the exact same thing as ban, hence why they are synonyms.
Well a "ban" does sound more ominous and more impactful. Maybe that's what he's going for? People would probably be less inclined to request a refund, if Valve told them they can be outright BANNED for abusing them
And it mentions what happens if you continue.
I think other shops tell you to not buy from them if you do too many refunds. As real goods have a real refund obligation when bought online.
As steam sells digital products, their "refund obligation is less", so they can just say, no refunds, but you can still buy.
Refund bans?
I just don't understand why some people go out of their way to continue arguing over semantics in an overbearing and condescending manner
It's seven years old and it's fake
Nope he is correct, you can be banned/restricted/blocked/etc from refunding.
Then what's this about I'm confused:
What are you confused about? I said to ignore those who say you can't get banned, and that you will receive a warning before you are banned from refunding.
its mentioned all the time on the forums so its hardly surprising information

I'm confused as to who you were referring to. Also I'm sure people mix up words all the time, especially considering that Steam is a multi-national platofrm and not everyone is a native English speaker. My fave is when people misuse words like 'illegal', or 'hacked', or 'banned' :)
the first guy is Turkish apparently, and the third dude is from Croatia
As well telling the OP that Yes he could get banned from being able to do anymore refunds, ive seen it happen and people complain repeatedly on the forums.
Aight do you agree with the following statement then: "No, your account will not get banned, but your ability to refund may be taken away" ?
Because we have seen it.
I stated a fact. Nothing else. It was as simple as telling what i have seen.
Yeah there are lots of different types of bans, they are all account based so the OP can indeed have something happen to his account such as losing the ability to ever refund again. If he elaborates later on what his specific concerns are he can get more details, but i've seen someone have their account locked from buying games for committing fraud with refunds, but you'd have to try REALLY hard to hit that point.
Just like you'd have to try really hard for steam to cut off access to your purchased games, but it HAS happened.
