there is no such a thing as "Steam Premium", you simply have a limited account because you never spent any money on the most known digital game store and distribution service.

i highly salute to Valve for doing this for a year now and hope more will follow.

the only thing Steam fully promises you is access to your games from anywhere you want through your account. most of the other stuff is not even mentioned to be delivered to you in the subscriber agreement.

Wow...they will? Because this update happened...LAST APRIL. So please do tell how Steam is going to die.

What it has done along with the proceeding security updates is almost made non-existent the amount of random friend requests I get from idiots with private/low level steam accounts begging or trying to scam me.

You want free lunch? Here's a list of soup kitchens in your hometown:

You want to have all of the standard account features on your smurf/alt Steam account? Spend 5 bucks.

Tldr: waaah I'm an entitled ♥♥♥♥♥.

I am so frustrated with steam right now! First of all, what the ♥♥♥♥ is the point of making steam accounts free when it basically removes the whole purpose of it??? And you want to see the ♥♥♥♥ing list??

Sending friend invites
Opening group chat
Voting on Greenlight, Steam Reviews and Workshop items
Participating in the Steam Market
Posting frequently in the Steam Discussions
Gaining Steam Profile Levels (Locked to level 0) and Trading Cards
Submitting content on the Steam Workshop
Posting in an item's Steam Workshop Discussions
Accessing the Steam Web API
Using browser and mobile chat
Adding public artwork and screenshots

Bam. Seriously, if you wanted to remove spam and other stuff, they didn't have to make us pay 5 ♥♥♥♥ing dollars just to be able to add a friend. And the even worse part is that they say that they can't unlock your limited account. Why? BECAUSE THEY ARE DIRTY GREEDY PIECES OF ♥♥♥♥ LOOKING TO MAKE MORE MONEY. I can make a ♥♥♥♥ing list right now that will show what you could have done instead of trying to make over 125 million people pay to do the simplest things you can do for free on other accounts. First of all, there's a thing called reporting, which, I'm not sure if you've heard of it, but solve all the problems that 625 million dollars wasted solved. Second, you could ♥♥♥♥ing add moderators. Is it that hard to hire people to moderate the steam community, games, and servers? Third of all, you aren't helping to remove these types of people because you can't use screenshots. Why the heck would they do this? Using the browser has nothing to do with the reason why they made the free and premium account thing. Neither does opening a group chat. Same with steam profile levels, trading cards. accessing the steam web API, voting, and the worst of them all, adding friends. If an unknown person tries to randomly scam you or something like that, you could just block them. If there were people not doing this, you could at least put it on the front page to tell those people what to do. I don't understand what happened to this gaming platform. But you know, it's like all of them. They start out good, then you see less and less potential out of them, and more and more money that you have to spend to be considered "acceptable in the community."

Steam, this is just ridiculous. I don't understand why you did this, but all I know is that if you don't stop at this, you will lose supporters, gain haters, and you will fall.
So basically, Steam is first and foremost a place to buy games.

Somewhere along the way, it accumulated a bunch of social features.

Then people started abusing the social features.

And then Steam now says you need to pay $5 to use the social features.

You can still buy games just fine though.

And all you have to do to unlock those social features is pretty much just buy a game.

They tried other things to block the spammers and bots before the $5 rule was implemented, but they didn't work. "Just block them" isn't a solution. I'd rather not receive 20 or 50 or more bogus friend requests every single day.

Steam is a store. Stores sell things for money. If you don't want to spend money, and just play free-to-play games instead, go ahead. But if you're this angry that you have to pay a few bucks to unlock the extra features, then clearly the games you're playing are worth nothing to you anyway and you aren't missing out on anything.

No problems for a year now. No random level 0 or private friend requests for scammers. The fact that it's probably the main reason I stay on steam is because it keeps dozens or hundreds of people from sending me friend requests all day long 24/7.

The fact that you're mad about it means that you are literally, one of 12.4 million people who don't like it.

Stop using steam as a social network as it's not the purpose of it.

If you want to use these features then it's up to you to pay to be able to access them otherwise just use facebook.

Adding moderators wouldn't fix anything. That MIGHT help with forum spam, but the majority of phishing attempts would be person to person - this is why chat features are disabled.

Sweeping up after something has happened is one thing, it doesn't stop it happening in the first place, it just tries to mop up the splatter after the damage has happened.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion
