What are gem sacks for?
I used to know but now I forget. Surely more than just booster packs right? Because that wouldn't make sense, why would someone pay $1 for 1000 gems to craft a 30 cent booster pack. What else are they for?

Nothing. It used to be the currency for the now-long gone auction, but as of right now, it's only good for selling or making a booster pack.

What may make them worthwhile is that you can turn unsellable Steam items (not ingame items) into gems and save it to get an additional booster or two.

Hmm weird I don't understand why people are paying so much for sacks then, whatever I'll take advantage of that and sell them. Either that or get a booster and then just sell the booster pack for 30 cents lmao :steamfacepalm:

You don't use them to craft a 30 cent booster pack. You use them to craft booster packs for games where even a single non-foil card will sell for more than the cost of a sack of gems. I did it myself during the Winter Sale and wound up with enough profit to buy two cheap games at the end of the sale.

the combination of the 3 cards. that one single non-foil is worth the gems you used for the boosterpack is rare, very rare.

Yeah I never get foils lol so not worth it for me
Not every booster pack is 30c. Not every booster pack is 1000 gems.

I recently used my gems to buy FF-X boosters.
At the time three cards, even regular ones, were worth about twice what the gems were worth..

FINAL FANTASY X/X-2 HD Remaster?

currently the average card value after fees has to be 22 cents for a 8-set(750gems) booster pack to be profitable.
the gem price dropped by 8 cent because of the sale, the cards stayed relatively even. so there was something wrong in your arithmetics because this pack could have been only resulted in a loss and selling the gems would have been more profitable.
