There's why I don't buy third-party DRM games (EA, Ubisoft, etc...)
https://store.steampowered.com/app/260210/Assassins_Creed_Liberation_HD/
(Assassins Creed Liberation HD)

They won't just remove the game from the store, but anyone who previously purchased it will no longer be able to play it starting in September. We're not talking about an online game, we're talking about a singleplayer game!

Reason? Because they don't want you to play... that simple.

EDIT: Apparently they fixed and clarified the message on store page, what in theory mean we will still able to play the game after the date. May not have been the case this time, but the discussion is still valid considering what they CAN DO when you accepts third party DRM terms and this is super scary considering they has difficulties even to write a proper message to the community.

You complaining: But I paid for it, the game is mine!

Answer: I understand. But you also accepted our dear DRM's contract. OH... Didn't you read it? Wow, what a shame, I'm so sorry. In fact, the game is not even yours, what you bought was a service. We've done the service, now bye. :Niko2:

And can they do that? Of course they can, you have accepted it, it's listed on the game page. This would never happen without these DRMs, as Steam's natural policy is to not restrict who bought from playing even if the game is removed, banned, abducted by aliens.

But Steam is also a DRM!

Of course it is... but unlike the others, on Steam you don't have any abusive terms in the contract, your only risk would be for Valve to go bankrupt... but we're talking about the largest gaming platform in the world, the platform that started this thing, it just won't happen... doh!

But above all these terms and rules, there is also TRUST. Do you trust those other companies that are trying at all costs to FORCE Steam users to migrate to their platform? They even remove games from Steam looking like a little child and then come back saying "Okay valve.. I'll be back.. but only if you let me sell my subscription too... if you don't accept it, I'll leave >.< (cough ea play cough)

Can you trust THAT?

So if you're encouraging these companies to keep putting their buggy launchers in games, know that it's not just a launcher you're getting as an extra, it's also lots and lots of absurd terms that you haven't read and will screw you over soon.

If you buy these games and accept the terms, you are effectively supporting and encouraging more of it... agreed, I don't buy games with 3rd party licenses / DRM either

I agree, I don't support third party games since month anymore.
It probably will not do much, but at least I feel better and can't be robbed by these companys.
We live in a sad time for games and mindless sheeps help these publishers to make it worse.
You cant even refund the removed games, I tried it, was denied because >over 2 hours<, but I expected that.
Personally I hope there are enough people to make a class-action lawsuit against Ubisoft. Its important to stand up against this.

The funny thing here is, Ubisoft could have saved those games had they wanted to. But apparently, it's way more fun to screw customers over...

That is false, they already elaborated
https://www.ubisoft.com/en-us/help/gameplay/article/decommissioning-of-online-services-september-2022/000102396

You can still play the SP games, you just lose access to the online components.
As the games mentioned in this post

https://www.ubisoft.com/en-gb/help/gameplay/article/decommissioning-of-online-services-september-2022/000102396

were available to buy on Steam store until a few days ago and even on sale during the past 2022 Summer Sale Valve at least facilitated Ubisoft's shenanigans.

If you're a consumer affected by this move your best bet would be to notify your consumer protection agency. For people located in EU this would be

https://www.beuc.eu/our-members

where you find the contact for your country. As Ubisoft HQ is in France at least part of their operation is under French/EU jurisdiction.

You might also educate yourself concerning the term "DLC Unlocker".

You don't have access to DLC any longer not only MP components are affeted.

Never said only MP components were affected, I said you can still play the SP games. Which the OP incorrectly stated they were removing access to

I don't buy games from companies that have ♥♥♥♥ anti consumer practices, period.

Solves the problem overall so you don't even get to situations like these.

Already confirmed false

https://www.gamesradar.com/four-more-ubisoft-games-affected-by-delistings-on-steam/

Update: Ubisoft has confirmed four games are being "decommissioned" in September, but only DLC and online features will be removed from each.

"Current owners of those games will still be able to access, play or redownload them.
Haruspex Jul 11, 2022 @ 10:48am
Perhaps a little clarification to help ease the chaos:

"Only DLCs and online features will be affected by the upcoming decommissioning," Ubisoft elaborates. "Current owners of those games will still be able to access, play or redownload them. Our teams are working with our partners to update this information across all storefronts and are also assessing all available options for players who will be impacted when these games’ online services are decommissioned on September 1st, 2022."

So you'll still have access to the game, but you won't have access to any of the "live service" aspects of the game. This is still crappy, since it means you won't be able to use any DLC items you bought.

DId the games even have any SP DLC?

They do have DLCs, some of them are exclusive to their Ubisoft Connect rewards system former Uplay.

AFAIK all the ubisoft connect rewards system DLC is free DLC though, so I should clarify. Any PAID SP DLC?

I haven't heard anything that is this yet, but I'll keep my eyes on it.

As far as I'm aware it does seem to only refer to free or online DLC, which makes sense. So I guess we'll find out.

It was true, when the uproar commenced...they changed it.
