Why do some people use hacks?
Was gonna make this in the VAC discussions, but I figured this would be better since this isn't directly about VAC.

I made a post several months ago talking about how I thought the Valve Anti-Cheat was unfair, and after a long discussion I realized that I was wrong.

I looked back at that post just now, and it made me think: why do some people use hacks at competitive games like CS:GO or TF2? I genuinely don't understand. It completely diminishes the end goal that you spend the entire game working towards. There's no reward; it turns the entire experience into a waste of time.

Do they do it for the power trip? Do they think they're asserting dominance over someone else?

Same reason as people cheating in tournaments, or olympics, or any sports or competition. It's human nature.

Some people just REALLY want to win. Some people really want the prize, somple people may simply want the recognisiton or something else. Short answer - there is NO one reason, just a multitude of similar ones.

I personally cheat like a bastard but I would never ever in a multiplayer game because it would just ruin it completely. It's not fun, and that's all I'm after in a game - fun.

Some of it isd affected by the culture too. You may commonly see things like countries where PC ownership isn't a major thing, and PC Bangs are a thing. The price of entry to a game is cheap so they will set up dispoable accounts and cheat.

Again there's many answers to this and it is not something exclusively to gaming. Every single sport has it's history.

This question reminds me on a game where someone in "my" random team used aimbot.
When i noticed that, i always made sure i was in front of him. So he could not hit anybody.

He was complaining.

Then he left.

There's also that breed of people considering cheating a challenge in of itself, competing with other cheaters for who's got the better cheats.

People who cheat in games are just complete Losers.

I'm sure Valve and many other companies would really like to know the answer to that question, and perhaps if brain interfacing ever takes off as a technology then we'll have irrefutable evidence of brain activity that tells the whole ordeal. I would be almost certain that the answer lies within our brains somewhere.

We know the answers though.

It varies, as I said. But it doesn't matter as knowing how it happens doesn't change a thing about being able to fix it.

I guess there is at least two types of cheating in games, and the motives will differ between them:

For the cases where obvious hacks are being used, so for example where you have an FPS player running about faster than it is possible to move and one shoting everyone, it is done to spoil other peoples fun, like the kid that is jealous when seeing others playing together with a ball instead of asking to join steals the ball and kicks it over a fence so they can't play any more - this is then a type of sociopathical behaviour, or antisocial personality disorder.

For the cases where more subtle hacks are used to gain advantage over others where the user there can be much more complex motivations at work, a couple I can think of:

-People that assume everyone else is cheating*, and they feel they are just levelling the playfield by also cheating themselves

-People that have the attitude that winning is everything, and the ends justify the means, so then cheating is just a method to help them win. This can be a broad cultural norm, or in individuals it seems to frequently be paired with trying to hide a lack of self confidence or as a (not usually very effective) way of propping up someone's self esteem, obviously any benefits that might have accrued being undermined because even if no one else finds out they were cheating, they know they were.

*This is often indicative of someone that isn't very good at the game in question, as lack of skill in an activity also tends to also be paired with lack of skill at judging what it means to be good at it, similar to how many bad drivers think they are good drivers as they shift the blame to other driver(s) nearby for their own frequent mistakes and bad judgements

To add to what I said before about there being many reasons to cheat, there's also the societal component too. What I mean by this is that certain societiies see things differently.

For example, China. Their society is more, well, selfish, to be not too finer a point on it. Doesn't mean EVERYONE is like that, but with the way the CCP has run things and without going into detail, it's made it a very "get it while you can" type of society.

So, you have situations where you have people who will go to PC Bangs, pay for the time and create an account to cheat on. Cheatin isn't seen so much as a taboo, so it's no skin off their nose.

Just something else to bear in mind.

Answer is very plain and simple: Because
Cream 2022 年 5 月 27 日 上午 11:39
It's very simple it's like in real life, as soon as there're flaws they're exploited, as long as they remain open. Mainly kids are abusing with cheats, they see the ease and then they're abusing with them.

Some people are just brought up to be nobheads.

Why do some people cheat on their significant others? Why do some people steal from tip jars? Why do some people eat food in a community fridge that they know isn't theirs?

Some people are just jerks.

others have already explained the answer in a more detailed way

i'd say the more tl;dr explanation is small pp energy got to them and they gotta cope
Crystal Sharrd 2022 年 5 月 27 日 下午 3:04
They're bad at the game and too lazy to try getting better legitimately.

Why?

This Steam Moderator sums it up perfectly:

#FixSociety

Until you eradicate the human predilection to gain any advantage at any cost, there will always be cheaters, liars and thieves.

Cheating and catching cheaters in any online game is always a game of cat and mouse that never ends.
