Arcade controller friendly? Looking for games that dont need the right thumbstick?
I have recently been building an arcade cabinet with the intention of running some from my steam library that I feel would be great for an arcade stick and button layout (basically anything you can play without the right thumbstick. That said, as part of my quest for adding games I feel would be a good fit, haven't found a good way in the store to filter down which games fit this criteria, other than checking "full controller support" and then narrowing things down from there. I am finding it surprisingly difficult to figure out which games dont need a right thumbstick. I am aware I can remap things, but that right thumbstick seems to be the lynchpin for compatibility. My setup will have two players, each with a joystick, 8 buttons and 2 smaller for start/select. Possibly another button for home.

Any ideas on narrowing down games that dont need the right thumbstick would be most appreciated. The only ideas I've come up at present include digging through controller layouts or searching by game genres and hoping for the best.

Otherwise, heres my current list of what I'm planning to run on my machine! (in no particular order).

  • Hades
  • Cuphead
  • Heave Ho
  • Broforce
  • Killer Instinct
  • Celeste
  • Streat fighter IV, V, and anniversary collection
  • Injustice I and II
  • Mortal Kombat
  • Lovers In a Dangerous Spacetime
  • Crypt of the NecroDancer
  • Pac Man
  • Metal Slug
  • Super Meat Boy
  • Hollow Knight
  • Castle Crashers
  • Ori and the Blind forest
  • Skullgirls
  • King of Fighters
  • Untitled Goose Game
  • Shovel Knight

Try looking at the Atari Anniversary Collection, and other such compilations. I don't know if any of the Namco or Konami or Capcom collections are on here, but the Sega ones are.

If you don't want to pay the cash for them now, they turn up bloody cheap in the sales.

I got teh Atari Anniverary collection for 50p at a chairty bundle, and I think the Sega one was similar.

There's "One Finger Death Punch", which only needs two buttons (well, for the actual gameplay. You do need a stick to navigate the menus and level selection). You can still get both games (1 and 2) for €1 (I'm guessing $1 for US?) in the Fanatical Build your own Tiger bundle[www.fanatical.com] if it appeals to you.
:teddy_talk: Remove the controller functionality altogether and use a dance pad 💃 🕺

Seriously tho, there are a niche of gamers who do use a dance pad

👻😸

Yup, although in my case, I wouldn't say "niche" or "core .... more "stupid".

Resident Evil done with a PS1 dance pad was my first endeavour when my daughter suggested it years ago (I'm afraid she thinks like me, sadly).

YOu can have great fun playing some games with a dance pad. Parappa the Rapper is a surprisingly good one and far too sensible.

Resident Evil really works well as it's so far removed from what the sdance pad is an it often ends is a laughing panic.
Wings of Vi
Dead Cells
Streets of rage 4

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
