Did you ever receive a random friend request?
Sometimes I get them out of nowhere, today I got one playing a game, level 1 accounts, are they legit or somebody trying to actually be my “friend”?

Yes, several times a day. Had 5 today I had to ignore. Mix of higher level accounts, low level and private/friend's only, but none evidently read my profile as I say I don't accept friend's requests.

Easy to ignore though, but I often wonder why they don't read what is written on a profile, before pushing the friend's request button.
I wonder if has to do with my inventory, because mine is private, because i'm no fool . Just a curious thought though.

If you post regularly on these community forums, it does happen.

I often times will just let them pile up until someday I decide to check and see if I know any of those people and then accept/decline accordingly.

I will make exceptions at times and just ask the person if I even know them, and usually get no answer--then of course I remove them.

It happens because :
  1. You have big / rich inventory
  2. You are a trader
  3. You are pretty active in any forum (people will add you sometimes because they want to ask or need your help)
  4. You are a good player (some people will add you to play with you later){
  5. You are their next target (scam). Usually they will be very nice or friendly with you. Play together with you, or trade item with you before. Then, "something" is happened.
  6. You are a girl

I get many requests cause my comments in my profile is private so they want to thank me for some help in Steam discussions and only way is to offer friend thats kind of fatal for them. So I decided to try out the public allowed comments in my profile .

As I recall, there is a button labeled "Ignore", so you don't have to accept and you don't have to hurt their feelings.

I always keep my stuff public, and yet I rarely get them. I might get a couple a week.

I only accept people who either write something on my profile as to why they're freinding me or I've convered with them on these forums.

I don't see the point much otherwise.

Generally speaking though, in and of itself, there's no harm in doing so, as long as you remember WHO they are and don't be drawn into any scams. If in doubt, don't click on ANY links someone says, and you'll be fine.

Rarely, almost never.

sure.. even though i say that people should leave a message on my profile WHY they send a request and well nobody does it.

i ignore all of them unless its someone i recognize from a Discord/Stream yada yada.

most of the time people who send a request are people i replied to in a Gameforum

I think this is one of the reasons! And also, if you do not want to be hacked, do not give anyone your full account data. have an authenticator, and do not follow suspicious links, and even to skin sites! will hijack your account, you are to blame for allowing you to steal it! if they offer an exchange, you will immediately receive a notification about the exchange. if there is a friend who will sell you an item at a normal price, def. item, then he should tell you the name of the exhibited item, which you can find, and then buy quickly. the main thing is that there are no orders for the price that the player has set, and will not be during the purchase process!

I get some from time to time. At this point I just refuse. I rarely play online games, I socialize with like 4 people on my friends list, and I'm not active enough in discussions to warrant friendships, so I don't know why people want to add me (can't be scammers since my inventory is 90% worthless :P).

If that's truly the case, then you're doing something wrong and should be careful where you are visiting and hanging around.
