Right click an empty space on your desktop and go into Display Settings. Make sure to deactivate the second monitor there.

Or just press Windows key + P and go back to Singlescreen mode.

If you ever have 2 screens, make sure to mark the one you use primarily as the main display. I know you can do this in current versions of Windows 10, not so sure about earlier versions.

Yup you can do it easily in other earlier versions of Windows. It's under the same place in control panel or settings.

Under multiple Screens select "Only display on 1" and check "use this as primary display"

Does it require restart?

It shouldn't; it should apply immediately.
