I just got scammed from my first ever knife I unboxed. New to trading. Please help
I'm, new to the whole trading thing. I thought once I sent my skin to trade, I could cancel it if something wasn't right. But instead, even with a 7 day lock on trades, someone can scam you with no penalties and you can't even get your skin back? Even though they can 100% return your skin to you, but the newbies have to suffer and get no support.
It was a Ursus FN Sapphire worth 3.5k btw. Yes I cried and did what you would imagine. Can anyone help me in the steam community. I absolutely love csgo, but after this I don't think i'll ever play again. Call me stupid or what you want but it's an honest mistake and as far as I know, steam/valve just doesn't care. I want to be proven wrong. Please, if you have any power, please help. Thank you.

:Teddy_talk: The CS:GO game forum should know more about this and should share your pain.

How can you be scammed? You were happy with whatever deal was offered in the trade window and accepted that you were likely giving this other person a gift.

:teddy_talk: Imagine.
Seven full days to mull over the possibilities.

Wow. Imagine the possiblities
I could get anything, maybe even everything in the Galaxy!

This unboxing could be a bright red Ferrari!
Maybe a beautiful trophy wife that will love me till the end of time.
Or, maybe *The curtains are raised* .."You WON a fabulous week vacation in Wisconsin!" Woo-Hoo!

Not too sure what he unboxed, but it definitely wasn't worth 3.5k of Steam chits.

I see you used a third party site which are all scams

Your account maybe compromised. Do all of the steps. ASAP!

Do not trade

Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
Change passwords from a clean computer
Generate new backup codes https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey
Stop using shady third party trade sites or clicking suspicious links.

The maximum value of an item on the Steam marketplace is 1.8K which obviously shows the issue you saw it was worth much more elsewhere and didn't realise that they were offering that much because they had no intention of paying instead letting your greed get them the item for nothing.

You trade at your own risk but especially so if you do it off of Steam. The only safe location to sell items is the Steam Marketplace. The only safe place to do trades is directly through the Steam client to the person you are trading with in a single transaction.

Everything else is basically a guaranteed scam.

There used to be an old 1980s quiz show here in Britain, based around darts (I know, it's as crap as it sounds). It was Sunday afternoon tripe - called Bullseye.

three pairs of contestants (each being a non-dartts player, and a darts player ) would answer general knowledge questions, with a correct answer entitling them to have a throw of the "arrers".

And when they got to the final part, where they'd go for the secret star prize hidden behind a curtain - it was usually a speedboat. It was memed for years about that.

I guess a crappy game show with a limited budget had severe limits. Funny though. I remember we used to take the piss out of it royally while at college, on a Sunday afternoon after spending the Saturday night ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up and dancing.

"New to the whole trading thing"

"Wants to spend an actual-month-salary on digital goods in a manner that has no bearing on safe trades on Steam".

Sure, dude. Whatever lets you sleep at night.
If there is a trade hold active in steam, you can cancel trades. Otherwise what would that delay be there for?

Once i saw an episode of something with 3 doors, and envelopes. And people had to choose.
I just remember one situation, where it was obvious what the wrong choice was. It was so absurd that i can not re-create the content. But i sat there and thought, nah he wouldnt choose that...... wouldnt he?

And then it happened.

Sometimes winners make the wrong choice.

Oh yeah, I've seen plenty of these over the years where people make daft answers or choices. Sometimes I used to look at the screen and think "how could you POSSIBLY not know that?"

The funny thing about the Bullseye speedboat thing was it was almost always a speedboat or a caravan. Two things that were likely bloody useless to the majority of contestants. That sort of schadenfreude always makes me laugh.

:teddy_talk: I remember learning about basic probability and word problems as a kid.
The word problems interested me and we did a 6-month off-and-on thing about different fallacies. Your post does remind me of the "Monty Hall Problems" that popped-up every so often.

You know, I was going to throw in a "You won a goat!" in my post, BUT I assumed a certain someone might rush right-in after my post and start going-on about "Was Monty Hall on the alcoholic table before you drank and typed it. Well?"
I decided I better not, I don't want to raise the ire of Steam forum's finest :D

I've seen a few gameshows, there was one show about naming the price of what was shown and if the contestant gets near the correct price, they win it and move onto the "next level" and I guess the final level you win big ..or not.
I'm not sure but I think 2 people made it to the end and one guy won a full-sized car, probably free gas for a year and the other lady won $40,000 and trip to some resort.

Well, the third guy I believe finally made it to the final level and he won but .. poor guy, he won matching tiger-stripes luggage and a trip to Detroit and no fun money, yeah go there broke. LOL.
(And since you're across the pond, it's like winning a trip to your local mudhole)

Disappointment and WTF was all over his face.

It was worth that much from other sites.
Why have a trade lock and not be able to get your items back?

Also, steam offers no support at all.
You would think that a community with the most valuable in game items would have support.
Yes it was my fault. Yes I reported the person. My thing is, they know where the skin went, but they don't care.
I'm not the only one this happens too.

And no I did not spend a months salary. I spent $2.50 on a key.
But I can go scam people with two accounts and make thousands and I'll get away with it.
That's my point.

Once again, a stupid mistake.
But on the STEAM APP it says you can cancel a trade when you send it (but obviously I misread)

If I have to move on it's fine but there's no support for a multi million dollar Market. Where you can scam freely and just trade with multiple accounts.

People don't scam freely, accounts get trade banned, making the skins untradable.

Steam USED to return scammed/lost items, but people abused it HARD, using it to duplicate items.

At the end of the day, it is indeed a problem caused by your own greed/lack of caution.
