IDEAL not working?? (Dutch user)
As a Dutch user, I use IDEAL as payment option.
It is not working atm, it has not been working all day (25-11-2020)

wanted to buy some game... was at discount.
discount timed out because of this payment issue :

want :
*the issue fixed
*a time table in how long it is going to take to have the issue fixed
*the game I wanted at the discount I was wanting to buy it for.



History :
I tried first buying a game at GMT +1 15:00

login worked, but my bank decided NOW was the time to ask my periodical obligated password change..
doing this in the IDEAL window froze the payment proces.

I logged in to my bank the normal way, chanced the password as required, and returned to steam.

So second attempt was about 15:30
upon payment I now got a "a transaction of this type was not finished... yabber yabber.."
warning.. I ticked the box below it and continued with payment.

Ideal now froze in the first stage (after entering password and name.. it froze.. it should open the 2d stage of authorisation..)
*I gave it a 15 minute wait even to load... but it never did.... after a couple attempts I got the
"to many purchases, have to wait.."

third attempt was 16:00 with sequential attempts at 16:30, 17:00 17:30 18:00, 18:30..
all gave the same anoying message.

when I attempted at 18:57 with only 3 minutes of the sale left.. that finally I was able to attempt payment again..
sadly it frooze again...

I just tried buying something else at 21:30.. and now it won't even launch stage 1.. but show a
"this service is temporarly unavailable" popup instead, when trying to run the IDEAL payment.

First hours and last hours of every sales event has this issue. Try again later.

Ideal payments in the client don't work, it seems. Try to make a purchase by using a browser.

Also: be aware that it can take up to 1 - 2 hours for an order to fully process. Sometimes it may seem as if the whole thing is stalled (after payment). If that happens just cancel and go back to the main screen and check your list of recent purchases. Your last purchase should be listed there as "pending" (or complete of course when it finished in the mean time).

But yes, iDeal can sometimes be horribly slow. I often prefer using iDeal with Paypal and then using Paypal to pay Steam; in many cases this is a lot faster.

Use an up-to-date webbrowser.
There was some changes by the payment provider's site which required an updated Chromium some time ago. Might be that Steam still haven't updated.

i got the same problem for like a half year now

A work around is that sometimes they give an QR code you can scan with your mobile to pay.

But it is strange steam wait so very long to fix this issue

Steam isn't the cause of the problem. They're using a payment provider which handles the iDeal transaction, if you're having issues then that's your cause.

Also keep in mind that problem can have more causes that just the payment provider itself. There's also your Internet connection for example.

But generally speaking: if you finished a successful transaction through iDeal then this will eventually also get registered with Steam. Sometimes it can take a long time but this isn't necessarily Steam's fault (though sometimes it obviously can be whenever their servers are bogged, like with the sale right now).

Just for context sake: I grabbed some games today using iDeal and had no issues what so ever.

Point being: if you're having problems for over half a year you should verify your own setup because then I'm convinced that you're having local problems.

I found the solution to the problem!

Do not use the steam app / steam client!

Go to a browser, like internet explorer / firefox / chrome,
Go to steam website and login there:
there is also a store there!
That one works fine

Werkt inderdaad voor geen meter. Via de website werkt wel zoals gewoon, aankoop verschijnt ook zoals gewoon praktisch direct in je overzicht.

Same issues. Ideal payment goes to login of the bank, but I never get passed that. Same issues about a month ago with my previous purchase. Used paypal then, but I want to use ideal.
Used to work fine from the client.

Can also confirm buying directly in my browser (firefox) instead of the steam app works.
This makes me think the issues are related to the "browser" the steam app is using internally. It is probably not compatible anymore with the IDEAL or bank websites.

i have a Game code from another country that i allready Paid for.
Please let me activate this gamecode in my Country. Make it possible . i have spend 100 and 100 and maybe 1000 of Euros/Dollars in games on steam. i´m really pissed. should i change and spend my Money in the future to other Game Platforms like Epic Games or else?

Define "doesn't work"? Keep in mind that a payment with iDeal can take up to 2 - 3 hours (!) before it's processed. Check your recent purchases list to check the status of those last purchase(s), if it said failed then something is going wrong but my bet is that it'll say "pending" (if it hasn't already been completed in the mean time).

i think i have found the problem its because most banks in the NL are trying to get ppl to use there mobile app even though i always payed whit random reader
since this is annoying whe geet a black screen instead off getting the QR code and the option to switch back i believe this has to do becausse off dutch banks its self and there websites
