To make sure it's not a false claim?, which it is in this case.
Chromium is not malware.
People who claim that are using an infected pc.
If you think it's malware, at least take an additional step by following the first step made by tomk1 (#11) and download and run malwarebytes anti-malware and do a full scan with it.
Start a game that has the overlay. Open the browser. Type about:chrome and see what pops up.
Even if he really only downloaded chrome (never saw any installer which offered chromium itself)....it still might be the case that a virus/malware etc. is named the same as that to cover it self up when people look on the running stuff....like it is often done with svchost.exe etc.
You may have accidentally installed a virus with the same name. That specific virus you installed was not a web browser framework.
Most of the things centered around Chromium are browser hijackers and adware. So look for your browser homepage being changed, being redirected, or unwanted ad's popping up. Scan your pc with your antivirus of choice, run real time protection (as it seems you need this) and educate yourself on safe download practices.
As far as Steam, others have already pointed this out, but Chromium itself is a legitimate browser framework. Steam has always used this, whether you noticed it or not. You can see for yourself that Chromium was updated to the latest version in the last client update.

If you have Chrome or Steam installed, Chromium will repopulate itself regardless of how many times you delete it when these programs are run. That's not an issue though, just make sure your computer is clean beforehand. Whoever made the video you watched, did you a large disservice by not explaining this.

May I again recommend you stop watching vidoes from uninformed people and maybe use authoratiative sources such as wikipedia or you know Google itself?
If your security is saying chromium is a virus then I'd like to know what it is because such a product is
1) Either incredibly dumb and hsould be removed from the internet
2) Is giving users useless, false or misleading error message in which case it should be removed from the internet
Literally EVERY CLIENT on the planet uses some variant of Chromium. Battle.net, Origin, GOG Galaxy, etc. Its simply not necessary to tell you because, as you aptly have shown, yhou have no idea what it means and thus go into a false panic because of some 'video you saw on the internet'

Use GOOGLE.
The rest of you are mean and ignorant.

Ok, like I said, I literally got here searching for what virusus masquerade as Chromium. It's not inaccurate, maybe if everyone tried google and read more than the first sentence.
You're ignorant and toxic. What a terrible community.
When someone tells you "imagine a horse"
... Is the first thing - and the ONLY thing - you imagine, a zebra?
Because a zebra is not a horse. It is related, tangentally, to horses. It is not, however, what anyone expects you to imagine, when they say the word horse.
You're imagining that chromium is a virus, because you think on some tangentally related direction, that malware exists with that name.
The program existed long before the malware.
The program IS NOT malware, nor a virus.
A virus calling itself chromium is no more chromium than if you, in fact, label a zebra 'horse'.
