Censorship of Profanity
Just wondering why you're not allowed to say ♥♥♥♥ on your own profile without it being censored, but full blown porn games on the store is fine? I'm sure its probably not fair to compare the two, but it does seem kind of weird to me.

Wondering how other people feel about this?

Because people are more likely to view your profile more then to be looking for those kinds of games unless interested.

That's fair, but profanity is something you're gonna hear anywhere in the world, online or off, it just seems trivial to me to censor something that you're likely to be exposed to on a daily basis

I agree with your point made but there are also rules in place what companies allow even on profiles and forums.

As this forum and all account profiles are public unless turned private by user choice (in the case of profiles), Steam must comply with laws regarding age categories and the like. Public forums do this. Just because you're exposed to something every day doesn't mean that it's okay for everyone.

I'm not saying "it's right!" I'm saying: this is because public =/= your personal playground to do or say whatever you like to. It's steam's responsibility to maintain a public front that is acceptable for all ages, and since they're headquartered in the USA they must abide by those rules.
Because not every web browser has a profanity filter which can be turned on.
Or at least, it´s not included by default in many web browsers.

And it´s just fun to try something out, just to see what happens, if you turn it on. Then you have something new to develop. And if it´s some sort of feature, why not try it out? See what it does, maybe you can get some benefit from it, or learn something from it.

I´m sure we can post something on our profiles, if we really want to.

Depends on where you live and the culture.

Where I live, we hardly ever say or hear swear words, let alone on a daily basis.
:teddy_talk: I think the profanity filters were put in place sometime ago, I noticed it (i.e. the profanity filter) on my profile a couple years ago.
(*ahem* Not that I swore a lot on my own profile's comment section)

Steam Direct and a 100 bucks USD can get your game published, almost any game, until it's pulled or, one could offer a "soft porn" visual novel and later add "hardcore" DLC and besides, humans are very good at finding loopholes and I suspect, that is why Valve is notorious for having inconsistent rules

Because those games are rated and sorted by categories that require you to "confirm your age" meanwhile posts and your profile are not rated and instead have to abide by TOS

Some ppl can get hurted by no no words so why use them
There is also other filters available and so on so you don't see it, but there are people who play these kind of games. I don't expect them to tell me I can't play my favorite First Person Shooter, and I don't do the same to them.

The forums however don't have these type of filters, and are a place for everyone, of all ages, to come together and give constructive feedback / have discussions.

I've personally argued for the word filter to be removed, or at least certain words - but like where in my country ♥♥♥♥ and ♥♥♥♥ is used without any issue whatsoever, it is filtered/censored on TV in America, adding yet another layer to this.
