And A LOT of russian people I met online can't act normal due their nationalism - the cold war might be over, in those heads is Russia the overall leader in everything.
And "flame for flame" is just as childish as the kind of hate you're swearing about.
NotEvenBlurm, Yeah hear it all the time, about "cold war", nobody cares about cold war in Russia, it's far far in the past. Cold war was in USSR. You shoud not associate avarage people with goverment. We have a dictatorship in our country and we are not a free people.
Russians are big on nationalism and that's why everybody hates Russians. Not all Russians are sick, but enough of them are to leave a lasting impression.
Hell, I remember Russians joining English threads asking, in Russian, why nobody talks Russian here.
From my experience, Chinese are often awkward, but nowhere near the hardcore nationalism that Russians love.
This isn't about Russians, Chinese, Europeans, etc. It's about small groups of elitist pricks who obviously don't want other players around. Whether those groups are Russian, Chinese, American or maybe even Dutch doesn't matter.
My advice? Just ignore 'm, not worth your time. If you got kicked out of a lobby you should probably be glad because chances are very low you'd have a good time in there anyway. Ignore and move on, that's my motto.
You first have to remember that Steam was opened up in Russia in one fell swoop and it was extremely popular. As such it created a massive swathe of people "into the pot". That's neither bad nor good.
But the issues are many - from valid concerns like getting into a game where you're the only speaker of your language and you feel isolated and unable to play properly, to the nastier side, where you GET alienated, or abused. Sadly, no nationalities are perfect. All have their nationalists, racists, and so on.
And when you get previously insular societies like China or Russia and they are literally forced onto the playing field, it's going to create quite a culture shock.
But there's also another reason. Because of the economic problems Russia has across the board, there will probably be more than the fair share of scammers and fraudsters coming from Russia because they see easy money, rightly or wrongly.
So, if you're someone completely unbiased to this, you may get fedup with Russians trying to scam you and end up just making a blanket policy to ignore all Russians .... or worse.
Not saying any of these are right, but they do exlpain what does happen.
No matter what nationality you are there are places you can go where people don't really like you, for reasons real or imagined. I'm an American and there's plenty of places where my kind isn't welcome. Whether it be because of obnoxious stereotypes, or oppressive foreign policy, or bad experiences people like nice simple packages so disliking everyone from a place is as simple and easy at gets.
I wish it wasn't so and for my part I try and subscribe to the law of contrary public opinion. If everyone hates some group I try to keep an open mind. In my experience, in most places people are usually decent enough and just trying to live good lives, albeit in different and unfamiliar ways.
People have preconceptions out of a lack of knowledge, interest or ignorance or just do what the majority or their parents do. Humans ?!
(Shame on Germans? ;D I am from Germany and my wife was born in St. Petersburg, Russia)
To give you a quote from your own damned post.
Your sweeping statements and hypocrisy have left me devoid of any feelings of sympathy for you.
Secondly, Russians were main villains in western Cold War propaganda and remain one of the main villains in modern propaganda. Rhat's why it's natural for people to expect something bad from them and interpret any mistake as malicious deed.
Thirdly, people don't notice Russians who behave well and soeak English, only the inadequate behaviour become noticed abd remembered.
