Splendid. Thank you very much. I may create a new account to change my name without having my current name still show up underneath. I'm going to purchase my games again on my new account, and want to make sure that if any statistics aren't recorded, I wait to play the game until I copy the game over.
Thanks again.
If you played your friend's game while logged into your *friends* steam account, of course the statistics won't pass over to your account if you buy the game. Stats are locked to specific accounts, not computers.
If you two "Steam Family Shared" the games together, then yes.. your time played, achievements, etc will remain the same even if you buy the game yourself and so no longer play the family shared copy but your own.
IF you start a brand new Steam account, even on the same computer, then if you buy the game and start there, no stats will transfer over, because again stats are stored by steam *account* not computer.
Two people playing the same game on the same computer (but while logged into two different Steam accounts) will not share stats.
If you really care that much about your name history, just make variations of your name to show on your history.
what about the common used save files locations?
even with steam cloud functionality implemented into the game, some games look at those other locations first and override in what ever direction they chose to do. not rarely are the standard common locations prioritized.
hours plays is something else, that is not a statistic the game dev can influence. but other statistics and achievements can be carried over to any Steam account you throw at a game on the same machine. that depends how the game handles those.
