Is there anything like RPG Maker, but cheap enough for someone who's not rich to afford? Don't say RPG World, while that IS a nice game, it certainly has limits (no turn based battle or 2d pixelated style options).

Sadly the 2018 bundle ended 3 months ago, but if you want RPG Maker and some DLC cheap I would be suprised if there wasn't a bundle at some point this year for it.

BTW in 2014 the bundle was in May and in 2015 it was in July, I do not think there was a bundle in 2016, although I could be wrong.

RPG Maker MV is really all you need. You don't need all those gajillion addons. There are tons of free resources available for RPG Maker/MV.

If you only need MV looking back at the price history, on Steam it went on sale 10 times last year, half of the time at 66% off and the the other 5 times at 75% off, based on this if you can wait till Easter I'd say there was a 90%+ chance of a decent discount.

For a beginner, no, as unity involves quite a bit of coding. with the rpg makers, they use block/modular coding where they use chunks of premade code to do what they need for their game.

First this thread is 5 years old, so you're not really contributing very much here. Second... Pistols isn't exactly wrong up there. Unity is a very decent dev. environment but it doesn't compare to an environment dedicated to being a framework for one specific type of game.

Realizing the age of the thread, but oh well...

If you want graphics then this probably isn't the best of ideas, but there's always Inform7; a platform which can be pretty useful for creating text adventures. You can literally create an environment through the use of proper textual lines.
