White Borders on workshop thumbnails and screenshots?
Seems like all the thumbnails for workshop images and screenshots have white borders around them instead of black, is anyone else seeing this?

Same in guides section:

I'm really tired of them making all these out-of-nowhere inconsiderate decisions...

Yeah, I see it too. Well, for my workshop items, but my guides remain unaffected.
i just noticed this on my screenshots
does anyone know what it is?

I don't know what exactly they did, but they pretty much messed up thumbnail making algorithm. All non-square images are seen in letter-box format on white backgroung, all images that are smaller then 200x200 have white borders.
They did change the minimal required size for a "branding image" of a guide up to 195x195, so what they did must be at least partly by design, but as the resizing algorithm works right now, even an image with required size of 195x195 will have white border on its thumbnail...

i think this applies to more than just smaller thumbnails
on some profiles i see the smaller images with the border
on others ( like mine ) it's the larger thumbnails that are affected

i hope they change everything back soon

I have a white line on the left side of the picture on my screenshot showcase. I'd say this is a bug rather than a deliberate implementation.

Yeah it's probably a bug. Hopefully it'll be fixed soon.

example:

they changed the parameters for thumbnail generation.

imcolor=%23FFFFFF generates the white line.

i dont think that is a bug or mistake, this is not a stylesheet change, which that would be easy to seperate from an internal beta branch. hardguess is that a new design requires the white line or they use it temporarily for guidance for design or as a visible todo.

The problem is not the white line itself, the problem is that for some reason they shrink perfectly suitable 100x100 image to half size and put it in a middle of 100x100 white square (or shrink it to 36x36 inside 74x74 white thumbnail); and letterbox non-square images instead of cropping them...

I assumne this is some sort of bug, because it is really ugly too look at.
It seems to be a glitch in the client since this thread was open 15 hrs ago and only today by now I've notice the white border issue in my guide and many others that used the common image size on their thumbnails.

I also have a white line in my screenshot showcase and it's effin ugly, hope they fix it soon.

As was shown in earlier comments, apparently they did change the parameters for thumbnail generation.
If you open any Steam page in browser, right click on any thumbnail and choose "open picture in new tab", you will see that every thumbnail address has following tags at the end:

imw=200 imh=200 ima=fit impolicy=Letterbox imcolor=%23FFFFFF letterbox=true

First two values (image width and height) can differ, but the rest is exactly the same.

(for example here's some guides page: https://steamcommunity.com/app/371660/guides/?searchText=&browsefilter=trend&browsesort=creationorder&requiredtags%5B%5D=-1#scrollTop=400. And this is the 2nd thumbnail from the top:
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/869620826863665578/1041A4AC9558F9B4CA1A8129850CDE8DD3CC41CC/?imw=200&imh=200&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23FFFFFF&letterbox=true )

Every image that is smaller than the size in the tags or have different aspect ratio will have white borders. And if you erase "impolicy=Letterbox" or "letterbox=true" from its browser link, white borders disappear!

I think they tried to change the design, but run into the result we all see... I really don't know why it takes them so long to fix it or simply to undo what they did; it looks really terrible and inconsiderate towards content creators and their viewers...

I think they've increased the max image size for guide thumbnails, but for some reason, thumbnails which are below the current max image size aren't resized properly.
