I'm really tired of them making all these out-of-nowhere inconsiderate decisions...
does anyone know what it is?
i think this applies to more than just smaller thumbnails
on some profiles i see the smaller images with the border
on others ( like mine ) it's the larger thumbnails that are affected
i hope they change everything back soon
https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/919019506111139484/433D5AA4DB80A3C6285B19C466500B14790A5614/?imw=100&imh=62&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23FFFFFF&letterbox=true
they changed the parameters for thumbnail generation.
imcolor=%23FFFFFF generates the white line.
i dont think that is a bug or mistake, this is not a stylesheet change, which that would be easy to seperate from an internal beta branch. hardguess is that a new design requires the white line or they use it temporarily for guidance for design or as a visible todo.
If you open any Steam page in browser, right click on any thumbnail and choose "open picture in new tab", you will see that every thumbnail address has following tags at the end:
imw=200 imh=200 ima=fit impolicy=Letterbox imcolor=%23FFFFFF letterbox=true
First two values (image width and height) can differ, but the rest is exactly the same.
(for example here's some guides page: https://steamcommunity.com/app/371660/guides/?searchText=&browsefilter=trend&browsesort=creationorder&requiredtags%5B%5D=-1#scrollTop=400. And this is the 2nd thumbnail from the top:

Every image that is smaller than the size in the tags or have different aspect ratio will have white borders. And if you erase "impolicy=Letterbox" or "letterbox=true" from its browser link, white borders disappear!
I think they tried to change the design, but run into the result we all see... I really don't know why it takes them so long to fix it or simply to undo what they did; it looks really terrible and inconsiderate towards content creators and their viewers...
