System Shock 2 is utterly fantastic but dated (it's as old as Half-LIfe 1).
Borderlands 2 is great, even single player without others in the game.
Wait... Explain... They all work just fine on Win 10 64-bit.
In my opinion, Win 10 can relatively install on most PC's from the past decade however PC gaming is another thing.
Here is a website link that can offer some info about your system and games
Can You Run It

And, I think if you're looking for more info about building an moderate gaming PC, I would suggest visiting Steams hardware software forum

1. a Dell 27" monitor (2560 x 1440) and
2. a second Dell 24" monitor (1920 x 1080) (when I play games I only use the 27" monitor)

THAT is the reason barely anything works. That GPU is ANCIENT.
Its from 2008, over 10 years old.
Put a modern card into that system like a GTX 1060.
There are many great FPS i could recommend but none that would work on that card.
You have a decent CPU, you have a good amount of RAM, just your GPU is terrible outdated.
Well ,after you get a new card i can recommend:
Far Cry 3
Far Cry 4
Far Cry 5
Shadow Warrior
Shadow Warrior 2
DOOM (2016)
Metro 2033 Redux
Metro Last Light Redux
Wolfenstein: The New Order
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
RAGE
Hard Reset Redux
Singularity
To name a few. all fun single player shooters. I am not the biggest fan of the genre and when i play them i prefer single player titles but i had fun with those.
fallout NV ( iv just heard good things )
Fallout 4 ( only with mods in my opinion )
Metro series
garrys mod ( you can shape it into any thing not good if your looking for an objective or story but you can make your own in your head if ya want )
The Call of Duty series is fun (Modern Warfare is my favourite)
If you liked Halo then Destiny makes sense
Yup, has a great single player campaign.
Deus Ex - Human Revolution (a FPS/RPG fusion, superb game, like a mixture of Half-Life and Fallout)
System Shock series, but it was already mentioned
Painkiller (the first one)
And still, I would be grateful if anyone could suggest antything like the first Unreal game, or any FPS game with atmosphere, great music and long single player campaign.
