Getting a refund with 4.7 hours playtime
Today, I purchased farming simulator at full price because i had the day off along with the weekend and Monday so I decided it would be something nice to do. Now it's on sale at 70% the exact same day i purchased it, but i played it for 5 hours straight. I would have thought there would have been some leniency with the refund policy, but my 2 requests were denied. Is there an e-mail to contact or something I can do to refund and repurchase? Thanks.

Nope. Past the 2-hour limit it's up to whoever reviews your request to decide whether your case warrants an exception be made. Apparently, they didn't feel that way.

while there is sometimes some leniency, its not enough for over twice the refund limit.. if it had been a few minutes sure, but not +150% the alloted time..

if they denied it there is nothing further you can do, it was reviewed and they decided you don't qualify..

There is not. Your request was reviewed (twice) and denied. Not much else you can do at this point.

Log in to the Steam client - click on steam support - click on help at the top of the screen - click on 'Purchases' - click on the purchase of the game - I have a question about this purchase - explain the issue.

Did that and they refunded it as credit to my steam wallet, thanks.

This thread is another example of why people need to stop telling other people that they can't get a refund.

Or not really. Most people can't. And this is why they are told they can't. They should always go and contact steam support since what they need is not user help but steam sided help. >.>

YAY! i'm glad you got the credit. i was definitely thinking your circumstance was one of those where they should 100% make an exception and give you a refund or credit (of the difference between what you paid and the sale price).

That was really the only fair thing in your situation. The game going on sale literally the same day.. is a situation where any shop should be giving credits/refunds to people who purchase at full price. In a case like that it's good faith business sense.

If they should contact support, its wrong to say, you cant, instead.

First, congrats on getting a refund. I'd have given you one too in this case.

Welcome to the FS2019 family. Hope you enjoy the game. Farming in Brazil is pretty awesome!

I'm glad they got the refund, as well. This is proof that the refund system is not automated.

I mean, if they are going to accept a refund under these very specific circumstances, why would they decline it the first two times? There definitely seems to be some sort of automation that can be avoided with the 3rd request, which seems super odd. Steam should just automatically accept a refund for the difference no matter the playtime if the game was purchased within 24 hours.
Everyone here insists every single request is considered by a human being with zero automation so the only logical reason, to answer your question, is Valve employees are incompetent.

I wish I could work in a company where I did not have to use my brain and get paid for it.

I hope you get a refund. It sucks.
Although its really bugging me...how come you never checked your cart for 2 years.

It's a case by case basis. Someone made an exception, that is all.

maybe they have a budget, maybe they just were in the mood, whatever it was ... simple fact is, OP was not eligable for a refund and someone that has the exact parameters and conditions like OP will not get the same result.

that is why this:

is a fallacy that for the majority just sets false hope on one side and unneccary work on the other.
