Market priority - same price
Quick question. When you list a community item, say, a card for $0.04 in the market and there are 30 other $0.04 cards which, for the purpose of this example, is the lowest price, do you basically, "go to the end of the line" for $0.04 items? That is, do those that have waited longer sell their $0.04 card first?

With everything else being equal then a first in, first out rule applies. So yes, you fall in behind those who were already selling at that price.

Yes. First comes, first served.
There is a slight issue with currency conversion, though. If your listing is 0.04 and a competitor is 0.035 converted, both will show as 0.04. But if the buyer is also of foreign currency and only buys for 0.035, he will not get yours.

usually, but it's not as cut and dry as $0.04, people list in many different currencies, and even though you might pay $0.04, someone may have listed for less in their equivalent currency which will place it below yours (which is often why you can see weird things like 5 cents being below a 4 center, because of some weird currency conversions sometimes)

thanks all

Something else to keep in mind:
You are not only competing against your price but each single one up to the purchase price. Meaning that a buyer who is willing to spend USD 1.00 will get the oldest offer ranging from 0.03 to 1.00

Thanks ! Extremely important information when we want to use the market !

I suggest to steam to learn that fact to steam market user with more visibility(like a little red sentence somewhere), like that, steam market users are not going to do the "downgrade price war" to stay in the first.

I have to say, (my bad), personnaly If I see a object selled with the same price after me (so 2 item listed on same price), I was thinking the last to come is the first to go out, so I cancel and re-sell my item with 1 cent less. (yes I know, xD)

So, for more "friendly mind" and less downgrade of price on steam market, it will be good if more people can know that important fact.

No ?

Hum ... I still have a problem.

http://steamcommunity.com/market/listings/753/324470-Blast%20Tendency%20%28Foil%29

On my steam market page, I see 2 offer to 1.40 CHF (Swiss currency).

But if I go to firefox to see the market page on webbrowser (without be loged in), I see the price in $, and I am behind the last offer ...

So, anyone know a good website to compare the differents currency on a market page ?

I don't want to be the good dumb guy ^^

Undcutting still works. The point is not to "be first in list" but to get your items sold ASAP. On the makret page of commodeties you will see a chart with two graphs. The left one shows the amount of buy orders at a certain price, the right the amount of sell orders.
If you just want to sell your item you can set the price at the highest buy-order price to sell it instantly.

Buy orders work the same way as sell orders: first in, first out.

I don't need to know where are the sell or buy orders, I know that ... do you understand what I'm asking or you just copy a tuto for "first step in market" ?

Maybe Im not clear, but obviously you don't reply to my ask.

Because yes, the point is how to be the first in this case. I know how, but I want more accuracy when I see 2 object in sell order with the same price in CHF, but is not in dollars.

Even in only dollars curency, I bet a large amount of market user don't know the fact that if anyone put a sell order with the exact same price than the first sell order, he is going to sell his item AFTER the first sell order. That's exactly what I was think before reading this topic.

Im sorry if i revive an old thread but i see items being sold a lot more than the price i put up for sale.

For ex: I look at the items sale history, and i see that it is mostly sold at 0.05, so i put it up for sale for 0.10 but then every other day or so there are items that sold around 0.20-0.25 or even more, while my 0.10 sell order still not sold.

How does this happen ? Can anyone enlighten me?

Yes, it's because some items have certain qualities, and people can choose to purchase those items specifically. For example, Dota 2 items can be normal, or have gems, effects, etc, slotted into them. If someone wants a specific effect, they can choose to purchase that exact item, even at a higher price. Therefore it falls into the history as having sold at a higher price, and even though it's being categorized as the same item in terms of market grouping, the qualities it has make it worth paying more for.

ikr but i think trading cards have no effect or any special things only different prices, so how could they sell with a price higher than mine, like i sell it for 0.04$ and i see lots of sale history above 0.05$ and it's the same tho?

I wanted to know the priority of sales of the items in the steam market. I often see someone ordering an item for 0.06 USD and buying that item from someone who advertised for 0.05 USD and there are ads for 0.06 USD. Help me understand.
