it started around the time when the yearly anime sale started. crunchyroll did a thing with valve to help bring the streaming licenses to steam. now valve and the licensors are working together to keep the list and grow it.
I went there once, they tried to coerce me into switching off my add-block, and as soon as I did, this happened.

given that i currently watch about 8 different anime series every season, this is nothing.
if you sort the list by date you see a buch chunk in march. that is when the coop with cruncyroll started.

No...unlike KissAnime, Steam is actually legal.
How is that not related? That website and others like it are chock full of malware and viruses.

Also I just looked up anime movies on Steam, and after collating entries that are related to each other (e.g. the 5 Yu-Gi-Ohs, and the 5 Wakfu movies) there are only 27 animes on Steam
I don't agree with this decision, but hey, I don't run Valve. So I don't buy these anime series here.
Plus I don't think you can even download them. I think they're just streaming. Also not sure if it's only a rental or an actual anytime-access pass.

even hulu has more.
I'm getting 101 results including these "duplicates", as well as including some things some people might not count as anime such as RWBY and Wakfu.
They're not really trying to compete with hulu or netflix.
