Looking for a co-op RPG without grinding
Anyone know of any co-op RPG's where each player has a distinct role (healer, mage, tank, DPS) and you work together to complete dungeons? I'd like a game I can drop in and play with friends without spending hours leveling our characters / collecting items.

So like World of Warcaft instances without the rest of the game. Or like Gauntlet but with more depth. Or like Magika but where each person has a distinct role instead of being able to do everything.

guild wars 1, no expansions, the "story portion". everything is instanced for your party, except the main hubs. levellimit is reached relatively fast and you just learn additional spells and get a new item here and there. the beginning is limited to 2 player parties and it is slowly stacking up the number up to 8. if you are lacking players the game provides mediocre AI companions.

if you just focus on the story progression, there should be no grinding feel coming up.

What about Torchlight II? I've played it for a couple of hours and there was no need for grinding, as you progress through the game, you will eventually level up by killing enemies on your way and completing the game's quests. There's a few side quests that you will come upon as you keep playing, but they are optional. As you get closer to the end of the game you will probably be very close to max level.

TL2 is a diablo 2 clone, with the same multiple playthrough system to reach the cap level.
At the end of the first pt you'll be something close to lvl 45, then you can choose to level up through mapworks or start campaign anew.
Definitely NOT what the OP is looking for.

I'd argue that there is a conflict between no grind rpg and multiplayer.
A rpg requires developing a char, both through exp/lvl and gear.
So it's obvious that somebody just starting the game will have a weaker char than old players....from there, the necessity to "grind"

without nor gear nor stats...you're looking for a coop action game with classes, not a rpg.
I'd suggest something like one of these pve coop games, left for dead / magicka / killing floor 2 / Helldivers / Vermintide (part)

I'd give a try to Kivi's underworld

not properly thought as a coop game, but has all the features you asked for, including no grind and coop, if you can find a friend to play with

Guild Wars 2 takes the tedium out of questing by counting quest progress in an area instead of back and forth fetch questing. It also has dynamic downscaling. So you can still do quests in low er level areas and get xp and loot equivalent to your real level.

It went F2P a while ago, but there are of course benefits to purchasing the core game.

gw2 is...a different mmorpg, but not different enough.
Crafting ascended gear is long and expensive (farming chain events and other metas to gather gold and mats and levelup crafting skills) and legendary gear is nearly impossible.
the good news is the lvl scaling in pvp

better gw1 than 2, given the premises the OP has written

Oh sweet Vermintide is almost exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks Kev@n!

Yea I'm not looking for a traditional RPG with skills / levelling / gear, but an action/adventure game that has classes and co-op.

Na, Vermintide has no healer and even the tank role is not really defined.
You could try Killing Floor instead. They have a medic. No tank there too.

But perhaps you should look into Elder Scrolls Online.

When you reach level 10 you can just do instances (dungeons) and ignore the beautiful game world and the rest of the game. Or you can go PVP, be part of large groups which try to conquer castles or defend them in a permanent map.
