It's pretty much the same as activating a CD key, because Steam has no information about you buying the game. But if you bought Gun Monkey regardless if it's a gift or just for yourself, that would count.
Ohh... First time seeing a 11 years of service badge
But yes Journeyman, as ☔ wuddih SpNv ✔ said, when buying anything from Steam you get out of the limited account, usually 1 game (not F2P)
But I didn't buy anything. My friend gifted a game to me and it is not a CD key. I got the game through Steam Trading.
Then you need to buy something, if you want to use the market, that's pretty much it.
Also there might be a difference in Trading and Gifting. Steam has a gifting function and if you are the receiver of the gift via the gifting function you are immediately asked if you wanna add it to your library or if you wanna put it in your inventory. If you redeem it at that point, it might unlimit the account, if you add it to inventory(which would be the same as trading) and redeem it later from there it might not unlimit the account.
Well the easiest method is to buy a game.
http://store.steampowered.com/app/113200/ costs like 50cents when you sell the cards.
I think maybe I should wait for 30 more days and see if I can access Steam marketplace.
PS: I hate spending money on games. All my games were free :D
Anyway, thanks.
