7 days after release servers are still full and you're unable to login or even place yourself in a line.
Was unable to create a character on most servers because they where full, I wanted to play with a friend on a certain server but it took 4 days for me to finally make one. The next day I couldn't play again.
They claim it's going to be fixed tomorrow. But we will have to see about that.
The gameplay is the utmost generic MMORPG out there. Because the Developers where told to go play Western MMORPG and then copy those.
This game is basically like Tera Online with the exception of that you can run around and use skills. But the game is mostly 1v1 against every single enemy so far. Going 2v1 is often not worth it unless you kite them like mad.
There are basically no item drops in the game. Or at least not what I've encountered up to level 16.
The items I've found are crafting materials that sells for 1 Gil.
Skills are so far only at one level. Meaning you can level up your skill. So when I find out my double shot skill with archer class is better DPS than the first skill I just don't use the first skill at all.
Same goes for Mage class. My brother had a firebolt spell that wasted hi mana bar in 3 or 4 casts but he could spam his first skill with no problem. Meaning he would not bother with that other spell.
Bad lineup of hair styles. Can't even have Sephiroth hairstyle. Like come on, let me have that hair style.
I think there are no Europe servers as every North America server and Europe server are located in Canada. Meaning you get high ping if you're in Europe. It also begs to question why there had to be two different launch dates for the game.
Progressive gears that scales a bit after a certain amount of levels.
Progressive monsters that get more and more HP as they get stronger.
Servers are full of AFK people that just sit in town. Square Enix haven't put in a script these people so that players who want to play can get it. Console players have it worse as they can't just leave their console on 24/7.
So what good things does it have?
Well you can switch the voices in cut scenes to Japanese but these are quite limited. It's in the option menu that has 3 dots.
Prelude intro song is still there.
You can take one character and get all the jobs on it.
That's about it.
Reason for me buying it? Well it wasn't too expensive and I wanted to play with a friend. I hadn't read up on the game at all but I might just not buy another month for it.
So if anyone is thinking of getting it. Don't. It's not worth it.
I'd have to disagree. I am enjoying the game immensely. Running around, getting all the jobs, craft and gathering. Exploring. And don't forget the story. Each class has it's own story line, each city has it's own story line and there is even another part where you get to choose a diffrent story route to follow.
Every MMO has had issues with log-ins on start up. Some can be fixed in a few days, some require a few weeks. Seeing as they are adding more physical servers, I can understand why it is taking more then a few days.
I would not consider the combat anything like Terra. I hated Terra's combat system and being stuck with only one weapon and/or look (without spending $10 for a new skin for a single weapon).
Progressing the classes, picking cross class skills, ect. All of it added up to a lot of fun. You can change classes at any time (sometimes with a minor penalty, like during a fate) just by changing your weapon.
Skills are all about the choice. If you have fireball one and fireball two, you decide what is best for the situation. Killing simple mobs would be easier with fireball one, but get to the latter bosses...you need the higher burst damage there.
In the end it all about opinion though. People should read up on the game and watch videos. Those who are still in doubt may want to wait for a demo.
All I know is I don't regret it and am having a lot of fun.
My wife and I got into the best and were able to play and see it for ourselves. After that, we pre-ordered two copies and used the early access. We are just waiting for them to fix the servers since she has a hard time getting in. I'm usualy on around 6-8am PST, so it isn't an issue for me.
The only MMO i'm waiting for is TES:O.
I think you underestimate the Final Fantasy fan base.
TES:O I don't see lasting long though. TES games are great because of the freedom and Story. That won't translate well to an MMO format, so they just based the game on TES. Other then that, it is the same as any other MMO, just with a TES skin.
I hope I'm wrong since I love the TES games, but from what I have seen so far, I have my doubts.
Everyone else said that SW:TOR will be great. It did not. TES:O has just for Facebook over 1 million likes, has over 3 million beta participations, so i expect something atleast. I have the chance to play it, ofc i'm not allowed to speak about it, but honestly, it's way better than any other MMO's yet. Everyone wanted The Elder Scrolls in a multiplayer somehow.
I wouldn't use FB as a source, atleast for the likes. People who like it are may not even know what it is and hust want to do so since everyone else is. Beta testers tend to see the game more as a free play and can't be counted on to actualy buy the game. A fair about will get burned out before it even releases. I know I will hold off on it, and yes, I am in the beta.
SW:TOR didn't look great to me. It looked ok. It also had a huge number of player that dropped off realy quick, so you can't go by the starting numbers or sales there either.
TES:O may run into the same issues. High start up, but drops. Most MMOs will fail in the first two years, if at all. We can only wait and see.
TES in MP is diffrent then TES in an MMO. My freinds and I would love to play Skyrim together. Not so much with with the MMO part. The combat system is just too diffrent.
Remember, Final Fantasy 11 is still up and running at full monthly price and they are still making expansions for it. Between that and how many stuck it out with the first FF14, I don't see it failing for atleast 3-4 years down the road, if at all.
Like I said, I hope it works out with TES:O in the end, but I'm not going to hold my breath for it. I may not even buy it.
