Whats the point of film grain in games?
I've been playing some games with film grain affect. Whats the point of film grain when all it does is make the game blurry. Idk it could just be me.

Because games must be cinematic because reasons
What are the reasons for stylized anything in any media. Style. Grainy film lends a certain feel and credibility to what you're seeing. Done well, it works well, done poorly...
Its a style thing, its also adds to the feel of a game if done right, ive found its in the 50s style games and the noir style as well. its a strange effect, but it works if its done right :P
So you can disable an extra tick box in advanced video settings.
because some devs are artsy cucks
Modders need a reason to write programs to remove it.
The most probable reason would be for reasons of nostalgia. Which isn't actually a bad thing to instill in your audience. Provided that they are old enough to experience the nostalgia. I know a good number of people who seem to prefer vinyl for the same reason. I suppose you really need to have been there. Say having grown up watching film or listening to records. If it doesn't really impress you then the most likely reason is that it wasn't meant to impress you, but instead that it was put their to impress another audience segment.

I cannot say as I am much a fan of the film grain look myself, but toss in some black and white, and I can definitely feel a strong change in my overall mood. That presentation to me has a very strong connection with some very positive childhood memories. When I would watch some black and white television shows on a old crt television. Which is actually quite thoughtful on the part of developers. Game design is also an artform, and part of an artists job is to evoke some kind of emotional response.

Anyway it is a shame you cannot appreciate the nostalgia aspect, but give it some time, and a few of the experiences you take for granted now will pass into history, and you will get to enjoy a bit of nostalgia when say some developer twenty years from now dredges them up, and put them as an option in their game. Maybe if you are very lucky you may just get to share them with say a later generation.
I play all my games capped at 25fps with ridiculous amounts of film grain. SO ARTSY.
The point is to annoy me and make me go into the options/ini file to turn the crap off.
Did not find another use in all those years.

Film grain does not exist with digital cameras.
Film grain originated from movie reels, nowadays it is used to make games seem more "cinematic" looking
The Left 4 dead games use it perfectly, if you play them without film grain you're weird
Same reason CGI movies add lens flare. Or vinyl record fans complain about the lack of crackle artifacts in digital audio.
