Gaming Indusry Giants Need To GO
I am looking at the giants today, ea, blizard, ubisoft, microsoft, the quality in those studios go down, all they are doing now is basicaly try to rush every single game, puting tags like 70$ on them, and than polute them with hundreds of dlcs. And heres come one of my delemas, people still buyng crap for them, wich means they are happy with low quality products and anti consumer policies. In that case i hope those people will get that kind of quality in continuity for the rest of theyre gaming time. But, to be honest, i am looking to get some quality for my money. Some stuff and companies that bother me in the current giants:
1. Riot Games: from a giant in moba name, with a decent comunity and brialiant game back in the day, now is one of the most toxic game on the planet, they removed the tribunal, they made the game newb firendly just to find new people to spend those money on the skins, they realease 500$ skins, but wont fix the troll problem, any fixes to the infinity of client bugs, looks at tft, mordog and his team are more focusing on streams and his new cosmetics promoting when the tft balance was a bad dream all this set!
2.Ubisoft: ceo and staff from ubisoft with all those comments on social media, even insulting players at some time, removing games from people acounts (the crew situation), all the bugs in old games who are never fixed but they still want to be bought, also uisoft is stil selling dlcs on theyre games you cannot use, on the steam version of assasin creed revelations, they let you buy dlcs you cant activate or use anymore (strange how valve alow that kind of stuff). Later realeases were nothing but craps, with low quality and content. They even masacrated my favorite game series, heroes of might and magic, after they bought the rights after the hit of the 3rd game, 4 was a terible disaster, 5 is the decent one, the rest nothing but trashes, for the fans in here, dont have hopes for 8, look at what ubisoft realeased nowadays.
3.EA the greedy dudes, or they were til blizzard sayd hold my beer, they are realeasing same games each year, and honestly they dont add anything good in them, fifa career got negelcted for years, now the fifa works with 2k to make a game, and if 2k does something good is the campain, bf4 wich is till being playd had the texture distant glitch for years and never was fixed, look at the new steam family sharing groups, notice what games from what companies arent shared?
4.Blizzard, from a giant to some small indie company when it comes to quality and content. If you think ea was greedy, look at diablo immortal, they removed overwatch 1, a game people loved, and payd for, and replace it with this garbage we have now, and didnt deliver anything from what they promised, warcraft 3 reforged, they dont alow you to download the old 2gb client, you need to waste 20gb for a crap who again comed with nothing they promised for, in the activision side, cod aint cod anymore, in a fps where having skill at shototing aint enouph, you need to move and spin to win, also speaking of cod, i belive this post will be longer than some of its campains. Another thing, most of the old cods on steam, are a security risc if you play them!
5. Valve: they removed cs go, the game was originaly buy to play, had it for a while, around 3k hours in it, they didnt evem had the guts top make a separate game, they knew it will be bomed and nobody will play cause its justy bad, the proof? they lose around 200k avg players. Another thing with valve, is what i mentioned above, they alow some sketchy stuf on it like those dlcs.
6. Microsoft: unlike the rest, at least microsoft dont take youre game away, forza 4 will be delisted, but servers will remain on (microsoft doin something good is strange, even forza 3 servers are still up). But same thing, new realeases are just bad, also we had hopes with the blizzard deal, that the ruling of bad games and decisions will go, nothing changed....
I can continue this for hours, like euro truck simulator 2 and american truck simulator, base game (or the first piece of the puzzle) is like what 4 euros? But if you want the full puzzle spend 300+ euros. Battlepasses and skin packs on 60-70 dolar games, dlcs who cut the content of the game in 35-40% at realease and than spend again 20$ a dlcs for the rest 60% of the game. And yet, people still suport this kind of behavior, wich after my not so smart brain, means they are happy in the way those companies treat them. And for those people i wish the situation will go worse than its now just to see how much of that stuff can they suport from those companies,
There are also good games out there, bg3, wukong, palworld, helldivers (even tho sony tried some nasty stuff there). But the gems and quality, are in the old games. Some of them yes, are not so flashy and good looking for the new fortnite kids who grew with a ps4 4k as first gaming platorm, But the quality of gameplay, and the amnount of content and the replay options are net superior to anything this giants does now, I told you earlier about heroes 3, a game made in 99, Only the story is 55+h, random maps generators, so new map every time you want, and the gem, the comunity, mods, tons of fan made mods and expansions with new facions, even new campains, after all this years, they even mentain (the fans) the online part up, recently there was a tournament sponsored by the guys from lenovo legion, on a game from 1999! And the list of gods who are still geting new content cause of the love from the comunity of moders can continue, old games with tons of content, quality content, I realy wish to live the day when the above companies close the door (ubi might be the first one), they were big once, but they forgot who maked them big, and now are just desacrating those names. I wish more companies will be like the dudes from bg3, and helldivers, in terms of respect towards those who buy those games. But sincer every kid spends hundreds on same fifa packs every year cause it want it, doubt we will see to many actualy decent and well made games in the near future!

OP, why do you think that if these companies will GO, then the other companies stepping in the vacuum will be better?

the only way those companies will go is for people to stop buyng from them, you as a new player on the market will do the same as them and have people stop buyn from you?

I will dissent, but with exception...

AAA Dev/Pubs actually do some pretty positive things for the industry.

For one, they're incubators. Do you know why some dev houses get big grants and tax breaks? Because they hire and give a lot of experience to tech-pros. A lot of countries would be very happy to have a goodly number of AAA game companies in their borders - It would give their Universities some place to send graduates. Big Tech creates opportunity for new workers in STEM positions that can get real-world experience. It's a valuable capital improvement for any reegion/nation.

The AAA houses are behemoths. They grow employees. Why? Because they need to support the salaries of upper management and wow the shareholders. But, they also cycle those entry-level positions all the time... Which means a steady stream of hungry IT and Game Coders are out there looking for work... or starting up their own studios, making unicorn investors happy... or not.

The spinoff studios and relationships made while the big AAA's go on feeding as they hemorrhage entry-level employees are valuable. Many great devs come from prior experiences in AAA devpubs.

Tech advances - They happen and they push the industry to reach new heights. There's billions of monies involved, so big hardware is happy to service their needs. All that hardware isn't created because there's nothing available to push it...

But, big AAA companies are often bloated. It's like fifty middle-managers are all looking to build their own empires. The amount of waste generated in some of those places is ridiculous. They're so frantic to "hit it big" on one title that they'll parcel out divisions to work on five different ones at a time. Sure, I wouldn't advise anyone to put all their eggs in one basket, but throwing away money with little to show for it is just as irresponsible.

The funny thing is, the ceiling hasn't been reached, yet - The industry still moves forward pushing new boundaries. There is still lots of room out there. When there isn't and competition starts to get a lot more fierce, maybe some of those big AAA houses will trim some fat and start acting responsibly in a competitive market? (lol?)

Gaming isn't really as "either/or" as many make it out to be. Sure, there's a sweet spot on release, but gamers will still pick up old titles for the first time. A "good game" will eventually get noticed. Flashy games without much meat on them... will fade away.

90% of gamers are casuals. They dont care. The average ubisoft / EA triple A title is enough for them.

I dont think they need to go. I think we gamers need to acknowledge that the times these companies provided good, fun and innovative games is over.
Leave them to the people that play video games 50h per year.
There are plenty of non triple A but high quality fun and good games. Probably more than there have ever been.

Leave them at thhe kiddy table and come to the adult table were real games are played.
You see, this is the paradox I don't understand. Modern AAA titles are designed for casuals. No longer for niche hobbyists. These casuals don't play much as you just said. But games are somehow becoming longer and longer. While the quality is decreasing.

Look how long it takes to beat Assassin's Creed Valhalla. And compare it to AC 2.

The argument could be made for microtransactions. Tricking those normies into spending more as they get bored. But you see plenty of whales who spend a ridiculous amount of time and money on bland shallow games.

Nothing makes sense and yet the numbers go up.
I makes total sense once you get your head around it.
I dont mean casual in a bad way, these ae just people that want a little bit of fun.
They have a console, maybe a pc but mostly for work reasons.
They buy the same games every year. Cod, soccer, Fifa or pro evo and 2 or 3 other games they personally like.

I have a friend that is a huge diablo fan and when diablo 4 came out I asked him if e is playing. He said what diablo 4?
I said yes, it came out 3-4 months ago... He didnt know.

Another really fun story, I went to a friends house and they were playing pro evo soccer. I didnt know much about the game, but apparently its heavy pay to win with booster packs.
Later another friend came and wantted to play it online. We said no its not fun they will destroy you. Hhe couldnt believe, tried and got destroyed. We explained that you hahve to buy this booster packeds but its not worth it.
He looked at it and said well, 9.99 I can spend that much. Opend one got only trash, another one same trash, lesson learned, 20 bucks down the drain.
The 3 gamers in the room go "told you". the casual goes "oh well, doesnt matter, the 20 bucks were lying around anyway."

This is the reason why onilne a huge ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about a game or company can break out but they still do really well. The bulk of their customers dont care.

Same goes for movies, the Rock is a trash actor that makes trash movies. He apparently is the best payed actor in hollywood. The reason is sooo many people consume that stuff on a throw away basis

To Our Dear Friends,

We want to thank you for all your support over the years. We want to tell you that you are the reason that we have become so successful.

But, instead of that, we are going to go in a new direction. We are going to pervert and fundamentally destroy all of the stories, characters and experiences you love. Then when you express discontent we will act like you are the aggressors and call you the most horrible and disrespectful things we can dream up. We are going to call you toxic and brand you as nazis and abusers of women and children. If you have any issues or criticisms of our new direction, we will simply ban you from all of the spaces we control, and then unleash our activist hordes to punish any space that allows you to criticize us.

It is a good thing that we are doing this because we are morally superior to all of you chuds. We no longer want you as an audience. We will actively attack you and shame you in order to create as much division and hate as we are able. You must not be allowed to reap peace or enjoyment from our products. You must never be allowed to feel welcome or accepted in our communities. That would be unfair to all of the people who never purchased our games or played them in the past.

You do not deserve our products and you should understand that we no longer consider what you, the toxic fandom, would enjoy. Instead we hire independent organizations at a cost of millions to help us craft stories and narratives that will truly disgust and insult you. These are people who will start fights with you and gaslight you and then ban you when you respond. They are experts in crafting narratives that won't simply bore you or turn you off, they are much more focused than that.

These companies specialize in attacking you with ideologies so hateful that they will upset you at your core. We will call that a good thing and blame you for all the hate we have paid them to create. They will disgust you in a manner so visceral that you will be unable to feel anything but hatred and disgust for the garbage they offer you. If you don't like that, we will promptly ban you. We will try to dox you. We will find you on social media and attack you and everyone and everything you love until you sit down and shut up.

Now man up and buy our games you incel misogynist, racist white male chuds.

Sincerely (Insert Triple A Studio Name Here)
Don't forget big game journo outlets.

The Rock is the personification of modern "slop" media.

That's a brilliant example of the soulless, corporate mentality of churning out glossy minimum viable products to people who aren't savvy or have the time to find better content.

Then stop giving them money, become a youtube "influencer" and show everyone how indiegames are way better than those overexpensive AAAAAAAAAAAAA games.
ZZZZZ Nov 12, 2024 @ 8:14pm
noone will replace them, everyone can already make better games if they wish to do so
