It's not weird as long as you don't sleep with them until they turn 18. The legal age is different in every country too and some U.S. states have special rules for teenagers.

not at all and in any normal nations also perfectly legal.

in my nation the consent is as follows :

if a person under 12 has sex.. with somebody more than 2 years older.. than that older person is performing a fellony.
**if that older person is themselves under 12.. they cannot be charged by the law and will at worst get asked to follow therapy.
**if that older person is themselves above 12 but under 18.. than they too can't be charged by the law. but they will fall under youth justice (which can only order the person to a mental hospital (forced therapy).. or submit to a reformative program (like doing work under supervision)
-> it will not stick to their permanent record as they can't have one before 18
***if that other person is 18 or older.. than it's a crime, and that person gets 3-8 years prisontime depending on the severity, EVEN if the person under 12 agreed with the contact.. (a judge is free to set the exact punishment. )

if a person 12 or older but under 16 has sex.. with under 18. it is not a crime.. and will not be persecured.
if with a person over 18.. it is not actively persecuted (meaning if the police will not press charges unless the younger person themselves makes a case out of it.)
**if the older person is less than 2 years older it is not a crime.
**if the older person is under 21.. it will rarely be seen as a crime (only in very extreme cases of explotation)

any person 16 or older is legal to have sex with by all ages

however 2 things are illigal until older
while you legally at any age may have sex with a 16yo.. it IS illigal to make , distribute or posess images from a person younger than 18.
so you will not be arressed for doing her.,. but you will if you make recordings of it.

AND you are also not allowed to PAY for it.. protitution to customers under 21.. or by people under 21 is illigal and the older person in that transaction will be criminally charged.

so a 12yo girl and 15y boy girl getting a relationship and it lasting forward.. won't suddenly become illigal once he turns 18 and she still is only 15... while technically thats JUST below that 16yo boundry..

Most laws have a little leeway when it comes to people who are close in age "ROMEO AND JULIET LAWS", just don't piss her off, since your walking on thin ice. It is easy enough to get in trouble against false accusations, but an age difference can mean the difference of shacking up with Bubba for a few years of your life.

so in my nation basicly whatevever your age "if two people are less than 2 years apart all things, with consent are legal" and generally the practice in how judges rule means they rarely will press charges if the gap is under 5 years age gap.

In the UK the legal age is 16, so it's not an issue out where i am in the world. Hell, if you wanted, a 50 year old man could date a 16 year old girl and nothing can be done to stop it, since she is consenting to it as much as he is, even though it might very well be disgusting, it's also acceptable out here.
