Who would be interested in a text-based RPG?
I had an idea about making a text-based RPG (Single-player so no MUDs)
and i was wondering how many people would be interested in it. i havent thought too much into it but it will have some sort of reaction combat system, and a sort of mythical ancient lands storyline. as another question, in gamemaker sense, should it be 300-400 or 500-600 rooms? (As in the different text so one chunk of text = one room) i would really like some input and any suggestions for priice or storyline you guys have

I don't think text adventures like Zork would cut it today. if that's the sort of game you're going to try for. Go for a visual novel.

Granted. SanctuaryRPG is less text based and more a game with ascii graphics. A damned good game with ascii graphics mind you.

You could always partner with an Artist.

...I couldn't get past the "sharpened potato" bit with the assassin class...I had to uninstall it.

Something like the Red Dragon Inn (old BBS game, so I could be off about the name) would be fun to see again.

Legend of the Red Dragon and I remember that game well.......
Myfriends and I used to make them in high school and play all the time, I even played a bunch online. I would def be interested in playing more, and good luck on it.

In my personnal opinoin C(not C++) is the best for making text based games. It really has the fastest parser and more features for terminal text based interfaces then other languages do. Probaly becuse its been around since the 70s where all they had was terminal text based interfaces. Its also extremly easy to use since you do structured programming instead of OOP so you can get right into the code and start writing it(its also easy to make it for multiple platforms as long as you dont do windows based commands found in windows.h). I recommend visual studio 2015 community edition for this.

Question here: I'm almost done the planning and I'm getting started in gm. Only question is should I try it with Python or stick with gml?

Before you start planning what price you're going to sell the greatest text adventure ever, you might want to start out with some small projects or at least a prototype.

Don't make a game because it appeals to someone else. Make a game because you want to make it and because you have a passion for it.
