Teabagging is in danger
Well maybe you will get in trouble with teabagging in the future…..

A debate sparks among gamers about whether the act of 'teabagging' can be considered sexual assault given its context in online gaming.

In online gaming, there are more than a few ways in which players can mess with their opponent. One of the most common ways a player can jokingly troll their opponent is through "teabagging." For the uninitiated "teabagging" is a gaming term that involves one player, usually in an FPS or fighting game, rapidly crouching over their defeated opponent. It is assumed that the practice began somewhere around the era of Quake or Counter-Strike in 1999, but "teabagging" truly spread across the gaming community with the release of Halo: Combat Evolved.

Now, over 20 years since "teabagging" began as a practice, some gamers are debating whether it should be considered a controversial action. Specifically, some believe that "teabagging" counts as sexual assault. To some, "teabagging" has been seen as a controversial act, and it was banned from a Killer Instinct tournament in 2017.

The conversation was sparked on Discord, when one user joked about being a "serial offender" when it came to "teabagging." Some found this joke to be unfunny and to be making light of a serious issue like sexual assault. Since screenshots of the Discord conversation broke out online, gamers all over social media have been weighing in with their thoughts. Some big names, like popular streamer MoistCr1TiKaL, have decided that "teabagging" does not count as sexual assault.

Others are firmly in the belief that the act should not be used in games and at the very least counts as sexual harassment, if not full assault. Still, "teabagging" is a practice that will likely remain prevalent in gaming. Even outside of video games, it seems that "teabagging" is considered more of a celebratory move than it is a controversial one. In late 2021, an NFL player was seen celebrating after a sack with a "teabag." So, unless the internet was to unilaterally decide against the act of pressing the crouch button repeatedly after killing an opponent, it seems that "teabagging" will stick around.

In the world of gaming, developers have even promoted "teabagging." Call of Duty: Warzone revealed a "teabag" finisher move back in 2021, and following a nerf to the act in Overwatch, that saw players unable to stand over their opponent after they were hit with Ana's Sleep Dart, the developers at Blizzard quickly changed the ability so that players could once again "teabag" at their own discretion.

And things cannot change when society does?

Again none of this demonstrates what you wish.

>society

if we would combine top most played games and their player bases, that would be tiny part of entire human population.
Indeed, and therefore still not representative.

Do you get the point now?

The bottom line is also that it ain't a popularity contest anyway, so it still doesn't show anything.

Even if 99% did this bad behaviour, the bottom line is that those who own the rights have the say for what goes and what doesn't. You're bound by it, regardless.

The whole point is that free for alls don't work and is constantly demonstrated time and time again, from online social media to organizations in the real world.

It was leaked and the Twitter Mob / Facebook Mob got a hold of it... just like most things that get changed before "release"

And yes my evidence is CORRECT.

To even prove it's false "but you're offending / excluding people" and "it's not good for business" the Developers did this on their own.

The First Person Shooter Call of Duty Ghosts sold 28.98 million copies worldwide... on ads like this:

https://youtu.be/gMjE-E78cFA

It's not a "dodge" strawman all you want... the Developers have t-bagging in their commercials and made bank off it... it's a fact, this is their own ad they themselves made.

Edit:

if you have to swear, you've already lost your argument, you're using feelings not facts / logic
And things cannot change when society does?

Again none of this demonstrates what you wish.

"Society" isn't changing... it's a hand full of fragile people wishing it would. And so they threaten and bully Developers into thinking it's "society" when it's just a small and overly vocal mob.

I don't wish for anything but leaving things the way they are because some marshmallow cries themselves to sleep because their virtual imaginary character got bounced on by another virtual imaginary character.

Erm quite wrong.

Again this is you in your little echo chamber in America thinking the world behaves like this.

It does not.

I'm sad for you that you think like this, but here in Europe alone, things have moved on drastically since the 1960s. Gay rights, and all that are normal and have been for decades.

Empathy and human rights and equalities have been the same for decades.

You keep parroting stuff that IS NOT as you claim - this strawman "woke" ♥♥♥♥. Sure, there are nutters everywhere, but that doesn't mean basic empathy and equality is woke.

THat's the problem here. You're beleving that nonsense is.

And again, the evidence you presented in that Watch Mojo video was NOT supprotive of your claim. You lcaimed it was outrage that did it, which is IMPOSSIBLE. At least the majority of those games listed were refused licence and they are considered for licence BEFORE release.

It's always been that way, since long before I worked in gaming journalism. SO tell me how on earth can outrage culture alter a game when the public hasn't touched it? Or even know what's there? How could they miraculously do this, then also advise the regulators that DO NOT owkr off public opinion anyway?

Exactly...

This is the typical "OMG everyone in "society" thinks so you're so backwards because you don't"

And five people say "Ya, that's right ALL of us!"

Demonstrably wrong again.

The world demonstrates that what you claim is wrong. Histionic strawmanning about woke stuff and claiming that the world is like it is in America is demonstrably false.
I htink the obvious solution is that you should get good at the games you play and you wont be tbagged, you'll be tbagging

This is pretty spot on. Crunchy, as usual, is completely disconnected from the majority of people/gamers and living in some sort of twitterverse where if it is trending on social media it must represent all of society.

Erm not at all. Nice strawman.

I don't go on Twitter very much.

I'm talknig about the fact that this user talks about his narrow centric view of right wing America viewed through a Fox News or zelot lens. and extends that to the whole of society.

But society across the whole world ain't like they claim.

In fact, that echo chamber he's in is a tiny and unreprestative version of the whole. He talks of things that are "woke" but are actually strawmen arguments.

Woke is not basic empathy, that's the point.
well , even inside the gaming community there is a tons of peoples that don't express their opinions and don't interact with place like forums , so there is no way to really know what the majority really think of the subject.

Very true.. well said.

A huge part of people on Steam never even know the "official" Forums like Off Topic even exist...

Just like Twitter and it's discrepancy in actual people... Steam Forums "groups" of pro-this and anti-that doesn't mean that any real majority is in agreement / disagreement with things.

In the end money talks... and if something is removed or added in a video game that the real majority doesn't like no matter what the minority might want or wish... it will show in sales.

But I said that too already... around and around we go... :steambored:

i can see your words, but how exactly they should make me transcend my understanding about how fast humans can become overly comfortable with their habits, is beyond me.

it's not that around and around we go (as if effort is being put), things are simply happening. the best we can learn from this is not to stand in front and pretend that we are driving. or pretend that we know who is driving (like poster above me did)...

there are no words to describe an experience. even more so, a hyperactive experience. each of us falls into 1 out of 2 categories dictated by our left and right brain hemispheres, and the true empathy is to be able to share this experience about experience itself, rather than try to dictate a thing.
