What is the most important aspect of a video game?
If you would have these options in which order would you rank them?
1 Open world
2 Gameplay
3 Story
4 Graphics
5 Many options( character creation dialogue, making different builds etc)

My order would be
5
2
3
1
4

Depends on the game. There are plenty of great games where you literally just click buttons but the story and decision-making make them fun as hell. For example, Telltale games or Phoenix Wright.

But then there are games with no dialog and little to no critical thinking that are fun as hell because of gameplay, like Kirby.

But I will at least stick my toe off the fence for a second and say being able to build your character, as in assigning stats and choosing a class (not just the way they look) is usually a red flag for me. These games generally have terrible balance, and if you don't build a specific way, you're going to have a rough time.

Hmmm. Yup. I agree with :steamthis: 1.

graphics ... but more in sense of aesthetic and artistic style then how much detailed they are and how high the polygon count is.

the rest is just icing on the cake when they're well done.

It is difficult for me to give a real ranking. For me, all of them are important and should be on the same level for a corresponding target group.
Gameplay is the most important by a large margin. What we think of as "story" comes second, but I would like to add "atmosphere/immersion" to that. Half-Life 1, which is praised for bringing "story" into fps games, is actually pretty light on story, what it really does differently is it tries to totally immerse the player in the journey of Gordon Freeman.

I see games as a system.

The system must be fun to use, addictive and create a crave to explore for more options.
Ability to customize and invent new moves help.

1) Easy to learn, difficult to master
2) Customization (abilities / skills / crafting)
3) Acceptable graphical designs
4) Relax and nice music
5) Story and voice acting (many companies see video games as 'videos', and invest a huge sum on this, but this is my 5th place, maybe it's just me..).

I have thousands of games from the dawn of gaming in the 1970s. I play them all repeatedly, and I love many genres too.

And from this I wouldl gauge this very definitively.

1 - Fun.

End of.
