I'll wait till "It just works" with windows programs and games like I want before using it as anything other than a recovery tool or a media PC OS.

Gaming wise, it just is not there yet.

Once I can plug and play without needing extra steps or spending hours on forums getting programs and libraries and needing to do hours of troubleshooting just to run many games, then I will praise the virtues of the Linux gods.

It may be the greatest thing ever for you, and make you feel like a software hipster, but I don't feel like jumping though more hoops than I already do to run barely anything I already use trouble free on windows 7 & 10.

Linux can be great for certain things, yes, I use it for boot recovery and harddrive cloning and data rescue from dying drives, but it is ignorant and hypocritical to think linux is somehow better for gaming when it can only play a small fraction of games out there, let alone many brand new games that were not specifically made for linux.

It also doesn't help when many of it's users are quite annoying when they go out of their way to exclaim how awesomesauce their not-windows and not-mac OS choice is while completely ignoring or pushing aside the common issues people have with it, specifically in gaming, often making said linux fanboys more annoying than apple fanboys are.

But it just works though unless you use rootkits as anticheat and very specific programs most ppl dont even use such as AutoCAD

As you say, it just works "BUT"...

I don't want that "BUT..." in anything. And with all the stupid anti-piracy crap in retail games it becomes almost impossible to play new games and even older games on linux that weren't designed for linux from the start.

Therefore it doesn't "just work".

When the "BUT..." gets removed, as I have said before, then I will praise its virtues.

When 100% of new and popular games that work on windows also work on Linux then it "just works".
I hate that its recommended a bit too recklessly as if it didn't have problems, but it is getting better.

last time I searched Zorin OS was very high on the list of recommended linux for those who wanted to switch from windows , but it's like everyone seem to have their own list so it's not easy to pick one.

No, I Hate Windows AKA Spyware OS.

You realise you can configure windows to disable ALL telemetry right? It's a little option inside the the Group Policy editor called "Telemetry Mode Enterprise: 0" then you simply block at the network level telemetry requests from Microsofts servers via DNS level blocking.

Viola no Microsoft spying. You can also view the diagnostic data being sent, by using the diagnostic data viewer. To be honest there isn't anything in there particularly identifiable.

Tbh i just want to play on the steamdeck and hope it gets an huge success so more developers will look into the steam deck itself.
Love it. I've been an on again off again Linux user for the better part of 2 decades. Usually what brought me back to Windows was just compatibility with games. Now that Proton is a thing, my reason for needing Windows has been eliminated. I'm on Kubuntu now, and I don't expect I'll ever go back to Windows.
I use it as a daily driver. Currently running windows in a VM for Gaming but due to proton getting good and anti-cheat companies coming around I am planning to use Linux as my main gaming system too.

That being said, trying to coerce Windows users in trying Linux isn't the way to go, tell them about the benefits and be honest about it's short comings. Would I recommend a multiplayer gamer to switch to Linux? hell no. Would I recommend a gamer who plays singleplayer games? For sure. Depending on how the anti-cheat stuff plays out then maybe I will recommend it for multiplayer gaming.

The great thing about Linux is that people can try it on a USB stick before installing where as with Windows you need to install to actually try it. I would recommend PopOS for newbies and enabling proton support for all titles under the Steam settings. ProtonDB is a great website to see how well games run under proton and any issues as well as tweaks. Most games work under Linux proton but due to anti-cheat they won't load which makes Proton/Wine's ability look downplayed.

Why you bring the DRM on this when the problem is non existant there

As I said ,only anticheats are the problem, not DRM, the games who have intrusive anticheat are a very very small minority and most likely you are not even playing those

Sorry to ruin it to you but just blocking the telemetry doesnt make it spyware free

Hell who knows what is going on since Windows is not open source
Linux is ok but I wouldn't use it as my main os.
I only play single player games and the only PC games that I play are on Steam (I also bought a few GOG games but the only one I really care about is Oblivion and I have it on Steam too), for me Linux is practically perfect for gaming.

I have tried several games and all of them works perfectly except a couple that already had weird issues on Windows.
Doom 64 gave me an error message on Windows, I just ignoired it and I could playt that game, on Linux it crashes instead and don't allow me to play, but I suspect it is a problem with nvidia gpu, but the point anyway is that it is an issue of that game, not of Linux, because it was already present on Windows.
Another game that gives me problems is Rez, it does not properly recognize my joypad and it does not allow me to close the game if I choosde to play AreaX, but on Windows it was weird because when I started Area X my gamepad stopped working and I had to give an input with the mouse for it to start working again, which is weird, and it is a hint that there is something wrong with that game.

I know that multiplayer games just don't work yet, and obviously as far as I know Steam is the only one that give this Linux support so games bought on other stores don't work either (I know that there is a program called Wine for that, I haven't tried it yet because for now I don't have any reason to and I understand those who think it is annoying to use a method like that)
For me Linux is perfect and I'm not a big fan of other launchers / stores (I just plain hate some of them) so I know that probably I just will not buy games outside of Seam.

Maybe it could happen if a new game will be released with its own launcher, sold from the website of the developers themselves, and not from other stores, that I will buy it and I will have to try Wine because of that. It is rather unlikely because I already have so many games that I love and I don't even have enough time to play those as much as I would like, but it could happen, and if it does I will try Wine then.

Anyway I am an extremely passionate gamer, I am obsessed with games, and in my opinion Linux (Pop OS) is very good for gaming (thanks to Valve, let's not forget that. Please Valve never change, be always like this, you are awesome!).
I'm glad that I decided to leave Windows behind.

I love Linux and actually i am using ubuntu 20.04 beside windows 10 as dual boots. The only reason i keep windows 10 is for gaming
