You're kind of really late on this OP, but I agree with you. I saw the 7th movie and it left such a sour taste in my mouth..I have refused to see the 8th, Rogue One or the new Solo movie. They are just...horrible. It just doesnt feel like Star Wars anymore. It just feels like a generic sci-fi movie.

Worst part is that Disney is taking elements from the EU and making them worse. Thats the part that really pisses me off. "Creative licensing" my ass. Starkiller Base? Really? I wonder where they got that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ name from. Inb4 "that was the original name for Luke Skywalker"...we all know thats not where they got it from. Force Unleashed says hello and nevermind the fact that Starkiller Base is basically a larger version of the Sun Crusher and Kylo Ren is basically a worse version of Darth Caedus and Rey is basically a worse version of Jaina Solo and Finn is Corran Horn or Kyp Durron, either or, and Han dies (Chewbacca dies in the EU). Wouldn't surprise me if in Episode 9, the galaxy gets invaded by some extragalactic species, as what happened in the EU with the Yuuzhan Vong.

The inconsistencies are also through the roof in Episode 7. Im still trying to figure out how Rey was able to go toe-to-toe with Kylo Ren and kick his ass while only just learning how to use a lightsaber in like 2 minutes...against a dude who trained under the Grandmaster himself (Luke Skywalker)...reminder that Luke didn't even use a lightsaber in combat in Episode 4, because surprise surprise, you have to be trained to use one, but Rey picks it up like she'd been using it from the start of the movie.

and the best part. The worst video game publisher on the entire planet now has absolute control over the Star Wars video game license. As if it wasn't bad enough that Disney controlled the franchise, they just had to pass it over to the company that was voted "worst video game company" twice in a row....

My childhood is basically dead, and sorry for the rant. Im a huge Star Wars nerd.

Disney said the EU isn't canon anymore so they can take it and rewrite it for their own story (a.k.a change a couple of names a little bit). Just look at Rogue One, which is a rehash of the Dark Forces game released long ago.

Disney owning Star Wars is both good and bad. At the end of the day, someone was going to end up owning Star Wars once Mr. Lucas passed away.

But hey, we still have the EU in book form - so it's not so much killing as it is replacing. Which is fine with me.
He is still living.

Why would it be removed .?
Disney bought Star wars in 2012 , there was no star wars since the original ones. 3O years before
Star wars was already dead.
I may hate disney , but without them there would not even be new star wars.
Yes but i wish thinga would have been different
Sadly yes but who else Disney had enougth money to put inside .
Even Lucas studio never had in 30 years the money to do it

I know, which is why I said "once Mr. Lucas passed away". In context of that post, I was basically saying "when Lucas dies, someone is going to buy Star Wars afterwords".

No worries Dr. Beckett. I have a bad habit of mixing tenses when I talk - they're hard to kill.

When they decide something isn't canon then, it isn't canon. You and I can believe what we like, if we read a book and want to believe it's canon, that it's really a part of the universe then we are free to do so, but they decide what is actual canon.

They're both forms of canon.

It's a tricky thing, and not something I completely agree with, but the owner of the interlectual propery kinda decide what is canon. And they have more than once decided many works of fiction are no longer canon.

Which is the joke. Good example is Thrawn - he and the Chiss species were made in the EU books by Timothy Zahn. Fast forward with Disney and they're using those EU books to write their own canon.

Only Disney is dumb enough to say the source of their new canon is now no longer considered canon. Might as well erase half of their own canon at that point if they're not going to use it or acknowledge it.

Like others said, it's nothing new and honestly, I couldn't care less. I saw how ♥♥♥♥ 'The Force Awakens' was, I didn't need to give a chance to an other one to know how crap the whole thing would be.
Don't bother me any. I lost all respect for the franchise when they started messing around and made the original 3, 5 6 and 7 or what ever they are now.
They don't care about the "old fans" any more, they want to market it towards the "hipper, younger, edgier" crowd, because that is what their hip, young, and edgy focus groups say to market to.

Just like EA does with games, Disney does with movies... Keep pushing them out and lowering the quality each time to get the highest quantity to profit ratio until they start to lose money on it, then they kill it off and go on to ruin the next thing.

What is funny is Gaurdians of the Galaxy is more like old Star Wars than new Star Wars is.
How exactly is something deemed to no longer be canon?

Well I haven't read all of those books, or know enough to talk about it in detail. All I know is a lot of books and games that were canon are no longer canon. But like I said, what does it matter what they say. You can believe whatever story you like is canon. Sometimes a story has an open end. It has a cliff hanger or something. You have to make up your own ending. Or sometimes the story is so abstract you need to have different opions on what it actually means. Who is to say who is right or wrong. It doesn't really matter at the end of the day.

Well I own and have read all of the bantam Star Wars EU books. Once I get a decent smartphone I can finally take a picture of it for my profile.

Getting back on topic, by the rule of I say so, EU is canon and what Disney is making isn't. Hell, you don't even need to read the books - the movies are proof enough of this. And (for me), that's the end of that.
