Discord all the way. Much more simpler and better. Also much nicer to look at.

Also now has video chat and screenshare which is super awesome. Server set up has never been easier. Unlike TS. Voices sound very nice.

Voice quality, and general ease of use. TS3 isn't a heavy program, my clans always use it so there is literally no reason for me to use Discord.

discord server

Not sure why that would be needed. There are probebly way to many servers out there and most wouldn't want random people to join them either. They would have to create measures to counter people trolling as well.

Their invite only link works very well to prevent those kinds of issues.

Not really, there are lots of Discord server finders on Google when you type in Discord servers to the search bar... and no, unless you're talking about very small communities, pretty much most of the servers with a lot of people in them, such as in the numbers of 100s and 1000s, let anybody get into the servers. You can get an invite link from those channel finder sites and I've been to a lot of servers that way. As long as you stick to the rules of the channel, it'll be fine.

Also, both Discord and TS use Opus sound codec so where are the tests done to show Discord offers better sound quality?

I'd say Discord is better for text chat as its UI is far more modern, and because of that reason it's probably better for voice as well. TS seems to have been left as bit of a thing of past with its older day looking interface. Pretty much only some clans still seem to use it for private meetings.

Let's not jump to that kind of conclusion :V
There are updates coming to discord
But I think it will take some time to get the voice quality of team speak

not even that, you dont have to find small gaming communities, just make one with friends in real life, add a music bot and a couple roles and your set

Provided there is someone there to monitor them, yes. More often then not, there is not.

For voices though, 100-1000 people in a single channel would be chaos and nothing would ever get heard. The chat is just a standard messaging type app, but even then it can and will get chaotic with 100-1000 users in a single channel.

Neither Discord or Teamspeak were designed around so many people using it at one time, in that way. It really isn't something that a community should center around. Maybe as a side area, but not as the primary point of contact for everyone.

An actual forum is better suited to 100-1000 users at one time.

I know I never said anything about the voice quality, so I'll assume that just didn't add a break to the post in order to seperate it from the actualy reply to my comment. :steamhappy:

As I said I have not used TS before, only Vent, though Discorde does seem to compare to what I have tried.

I have used Vent, TS/TS2 (not 3 tho), Skype and Discord for gaming and general chatting. I like Discord overall. Just feels better to me.

How else are we going to share WH40K memes if not on Discord? :steamhappy:

I see that you don't have an idea and just making up assumptions about Discord servers. Go to any Discord server with 100s to 1000s of people in them and there isn't any chaos happening. This is not steam chat and there are mods in every one of those servers. Most often couple 1000s of people are just IN the room, might be with Discord closed and the other couple 10s of people are the active ones that chat.

The voice chat channels are, for that reason, mainly capped to like 5-10 people at most...

and yes, the part about the voice quality of my post wasn't directed at you.
re Ventrilo: wasn't that basically the paid version of TeamSpeak?

I do have an idea and have seen what I have said.

I doubt that there are mods in all of them as many are simply user created. That is like saying there are mods in all of Steam's discussions. Sorry, but that is not possible, especialy for one to be on at all times.

Look at Steam Groups as well. Same issue. Heck, Reddit also. Not everyone appoints a moderator nor are they there 24/7. Discored doesn't have global moderators either, so each channel is left to it's own.

If there are 1000s in a room and only 10 active, then what is the point? That isn't even a community.

I am looking at the limitations of Discord and other similar clients, not just Steam.

You also didn't read what I said about many people talk, but simply assume that only 10 will be active at any given time. What if 100 of them are? or 1000? As I said, it would be chaos. Heck, I have been in with 10 people before and it is also chaos if everyone is active. People usualy go to a diffrent hub or channel (if available) so they can have a discussion.

I am looking at things from a realistic perspective as what can and can not happen, as well as what does happen.

If people want 1000s of useless people in a room while only 10 talk, that is for them to decide, but that is not a community.

No, diffrent developers and services. Also TS had paid servers too, just like Vent. There was always debate about the codec and what one we better quality too.
