Fps cap
Hye guys, i have a 60hz monitor but when i play dota 2, the in-game fps counter shows that my fps is about 130-160.

My question is, how do i limit the amount of fps rendered by the graphics card.

I wanted to do this just to save my gpu from rendering unused scene thus also lowering power consumption ( or not ?)

I have an nvdia gpu if that information would help :)

if you want to lock the framerate to the monitors hz use vsync theres generally an option for it in every game

Higher FPS doesn't mean more pow consumption

it can actually

Precision X and MSI Afterburner both have built-in options to limit the frame rate.

You may be able to do it through the NVidia drivers as well, but I believe you need NV Inspector for that.

no vsync is an option on the control panel and you shouldnt use 3rd party software to limit the fps

nvidia inspector let's you adjust all parameters of the regular game profiles. There is an FPS limit option too. NVidia inspector doesnt have to run afterwards. Why such a usefull option is still hidden and not in the control panel blows my mind. Probably so nvidia can sell more cards. -.-''

Can you enable Vsync in the Dota 2 settings? You can use Crimson, Nvidia control panel to enable it.

If your video cards are rendering more frames they are using more power.

Crimson and Nvidia Control Panel usually do things like AA and Vsync better than the games settings. I wouldn't use any other program for vsync though; unless its a terrible port like Dead Space.

Just go to game options and enable Vsync there is no need to enable it from nvidia inspector or control panel or any kind of application.

yes it is vsync matches the vertical refresh rate to your monitors refresh rate locking the framerate to the maximum fps your monitor can handle

capping is diff

Capping is not the same as Vsync. No matter how many times you keep repeating yourself.

They're two different things each with their own pros and cons. Capping the frame rate does nothing to solve screen tearing, which is what Vsync is for. Vsync goes the extra step and actually waits until your monitor is ready to receive the next frame, but this also creates input lag.

For people who can't stand screen tearing; use Vsync.

For those that hate input lag; cap your frames.

OP can decide for himself which he prefers. (and there's nothing wrong with third party frame limiters, no idea what you're talking about there either)

Type Fps_max 60 in the console or add the command in ur cfg
Also you can add a launch option to cap fps. Use one of these:
-refresh 60
-freq 60 (it might be -freq60)
-hz 60 (it might be -hz60)

Also you can enable v-sync from game and fps will match your monitors refresh rate even if the fps are lower than your monitors refresh rate and the fps will be capped to your monitors max refresh rate but if you are looking for lower power consumption i dont recomand vsync but the options ive posted above
