It's not
I can't confirm that it's the source of the sound but I can't think of anything else it could be. If it is, how do I stop the sound? It's incredibly annoying. It doesn't appear to be causing any issues, I can run everything just fine, it's just an annoying sound.
you figure out what is making the sound and have that component replaced.
Do I need to buy a new os?
Could be bearing going out on a fan. If so, it might get better for a couple weeks, come back, get worse, get better, get worse until it finally becomes so loud or annoying that you have no problem identifying it.
If it is HDD, it is likely to be logging disk errors in Windows event log. You can go Windows Key + R, then type eventvwr.msc, click OK, then expand Windows Logs and look at system log for disk errors.
How do i tell what a disk error looks like? there are a couple things labled warning that say hard disk somewhere in the description but thats all.
I highly suggest that if you are getting HDD errors, that you save or backup all important data immediately, if that applies.
This is a brand new pc, nothing is on it. Ive confirmed it is an hdd error and will be replacing it.
