Probably not worth it as your gpu and maybe monitor refresh rate will be limiting factors currently.

switching from i5 9600K to i9 9900k has boosted many games for about +25fps....maybe it will be the same with the new i9 10900K.
Nope, the only place you're going to get gains that large is if you go over to AMD Ryzen and buy their flagship CPU. Since the definition of Ryzen flagship keeps changing between iterations, they're pushing into new market segments. The difference between a 9900k and 10900k is a whole lot of nothing, just an exercise in wasted money.

How would going to a 3600 improve fps?

Going to a 3600 from what? AMD's flagship is the 3950.

3950X gets worse FPS... Ryzen 9 isn't a gaming CPU line, it's for content creation primarily...

Then a 2700x? Have fun with this one, let me get the popcorn :)

No, but it sure would help if you read the comments you reply to in the future. We were discussing upgrading from the flagship model between two generations. You just hopped into the discussion and made an ass of yourself for no reason :-\

No? You literally said that he'd only get massive gains by going for the "Ryzen flagship" yet none of the Ryzen CPUs get as much FPS as the 9900K in the majority of cases. In terms of gaming performance, changing the motherboard and CPU to Ryzen would be a downgrade, and I pointed that out.

Either way, nice troll. Just keep it out of the forums like these that involve people trying to make educated decisions.

Stay out of the forums, please. You're the one being problematic.

Let's calm down a little.

No need to demand one another get out of the forums.

I'm going to side with Escorve on this one, don't take that the wrong way.
Because the OP said that he only games, so it doesn't make much sense for him to 'downgrade' to a 3950x, he would get worse performance.
The i9-9900k provides the better experience, in gaming.
Now, if he had other use cases I would agree.
But there's no current game (that I know of), that can fully utilise either CPU, so upgrading for a thread deficit isn't a question. It's more toward single thread performance, which the 9900k is the better choice.
And, you are correct, upgrading to Intels next generation would be meanigless too.

Nobody was advising the user to buy a 3950x. The entire point I was making is that it is only AMD Ryzen users who can buy the flagship model one generation, turn around the next generation and consider purchasing the flagship an upgrade.

The difference between a 2700x and 3950x is on the order of the upgrade discussed between an i5 9600 and i9 9900k, the difference between an i9 9900k and an i9 10900k is not even worth discussing.

Oh, I see now.

Though, if you read your first post back, you can see how it could be easily misconstrued as recommending he buys a 3950x.

ok guys, I will not buy the i9 10900K, but I will buy the 11900K.
