Is there any chance of having XBMC on Steam OS? I think that would awesome....the best of both worlds.

No, it is not for xbox. It is an awesome mediaplayer that is started off from the xbox. Now it is a great mediaplayer. It would be the best combi for my htpc.

I got the idea that the whole point of Steam OS was to replace plex, xbmc in living room?

Chances are, you will be able to install it on your own. Something like that would have to be up to the individual user.

Would be awesome if it were pre-installed, maybe change modes so when you turn the steambox on it would boot right into XBMC or an option to do so.

This would be pretty cool

I don't see why not, since Valve is kind of encouraging people to mess with their OS. Granted, it seems SteamOS will be able to do some of the things XBMC can do, but it'll be interesting to be able to power the media part of it without using Steam.

Sounds good to me!

Steam OS probably functions a lot like XBMC.. It would seem pointless to install a Media Frontend on an OS made specifically for playing media..

If mediaplayer won't be integraded directly to steamOS, some nice button to switch to any (defined) mediacenter app would be nice (something like button in main menu maybe?). In worst case, I think you should be able to add it as non steam "game" and run it from library.

Anyway since SteamOS is linux based and xbmc run on linux well there won't be any need to reboot, it will be just switching app.
XBMC or some other media player app (several others, options are always great) as free downloads within the Steam store would be awesome. That way, when you want XBMC, just select it like you would any other app within Steam. When you're done, you exit back to the Living Room interface in steam. It's obvious, simple, and with the ability to add your own apps or games to Steam already built in, a no brainer.

All you would need is a key-map for the controller for the media player of your choice and you're good to go.

Valve already announced media capabilities for SteamOS. this thread is pointless.
