Broadcast directly to friend. (reduced latency direct mode)
Would be cool if there was a way of chosing to broadcast direktly to a single person or such, making the stream go around the latency causing servers and such but only allowing one person to view, Right now latency seems to be around 6-7 seconds which is nice, but a direkt mode when you are only broadcasting to one friend, for guiding and or such situations would be very nice.

you cant stream without latency. stuff has to be cached and then sent over, everything else would result in choppy and laggy content.

if you only wanna broadcast to one, set it to only people you invite for the broadcast settings.

I think what he means is instead if you Steam streaming the video and processing it on their servers it is send directly to a specific friend(s) so it wouldn't have to go through Steam Servers, just directly to who you want. P2P Streaming essentially.

exactly, right now it goes through the steam server that handles the stream so that more then one person can join without increasing the load on the person broadcasting, and that is quite nice, 8 seconds is not that bad at all, better then twitch at least when I tested it a bit ago, it had around 15 seconds delay.

Directly sending the data to a specific steam user without having the distribution servers handle anything would significantly reduce the lag, kinda like the playstation 4's share function, that goes directly to only one person and there is absolutely minimal lag because of that. Adding this as an option to broadcast would be so very nice, for when you want to help a friend.

I have really bad lag issues when someone is watching a broadcast, do you know how to fix that? I haven't been able to find out how.

When you are broadcasting you are capturing what is happening on your screen, and since it isn't dedicated hardware solution, like nvidia shadowplay it is a noticably heavy task, that said, if you select the resolution you game in rather then a lower one, it seems to help, I am guessing since the software doesn't need to downscale the image constantly, I run at 1080p and if i set streaming to a lower resolution then that, the load of broadcasting becomes significant, however if I just chose 1080p like what I am gaming at, it seems much easier to handle.

Thanks for the answer.. I'm more than willing to do this but I don't remember it asking me what resoluation I wanted to broadcast in when I set it up to do it. Can you tell me where I need to do it? I want to be able to broadcast but my ping jumps from 10-13 to over 200 when someone tries to watch.

Settings->Broadcasting->video dimensions

also note you can set the privacy settings and such here as well.
