Hold a game until christmas.

Unfortunately, there is a lot of people without steam accounts. I am mainly talking about parents with children who want games that are on sale on steam. I know some parents want them to have their gifts on Christmas but don't trust their child. I only want you to be able to buy a game, and have it in a position where you can install the game but not use it until Christmas.

You can use the gift option to hold it in your inventory and then send the gift on christmas... if that's what you mean?

I meant it like if a parent wanted to buy a game for their child but it was only on sale for a limited time, they could buy it on the childs account and "lock" it until Christmas.

Thats a great idea! I am going to be out of the country/away from the interent for the 25th and it would be cool to have a game be gifted on that day.

How does this differ from buying a game as a gift item and then redeeming it to the account on Christmas?

In the meantime, if you don't want to make a separate account to hold the game, you could try using Family View to restrict access to it.

Really though I don't see any point to it.

You can already do this by sending gifts through steam to separate accounts on the same computer so the parents can easily just do this by creating an account real quick and send the item to their child's steam account on christmas eve.

buy it as a gift and store it in your inventory, then gifts it to your childrens account on xmas. if you share an account, buy it normally and hide it over rightclick -> "set category" and hope that he/she doesnt see this thread or check the hidden games in the library.
