Multiple Accounts / Splitscreen / Local Co Op
I understand that you want to compete in the living room, hence big picture mode etc, which is absolutely fantastic and works great.

However, one problem that affects us gamers and the games for PC is the lack of splitscreen and local co op on our PC games, HOWEVER the console versions of the same game do have these features.

One reason for this is that we don't have support for multiple accounts on Steam, which is down to Steam to implement obviously.

Me and my friends play our PC games with an Xbox 360 controller for the PC. Hundreds of games support this, and it seems stupid that we can't play splitscreen.

Would it be possible for Steam to allow multiple users to login, like Xbox 360, each account would be linked to a controller. (And maybe a keyboard if that's possible for those that don't like controllers?)

As well as this, the option, again like the Xbox, for a guest account, so they don't need an account and can just play quickly.

Hopefully if this is implemented, then game developers can stop removing splitscreen / local co op from our PC games, and we can be happy and play with our friends in the living room!

Please please please implement this.

Thanks

It's so annoying! So many games that don't have it 😩

Can we raise attention on this, to show Steam how much we want this?

ask the gamedevs. not steam/valve.

I know it ultimately comes down to the game devs - but I think this is one of the issues for some of the games, as to why devs aren't bothering.
For instance, Xbox Call of Duty is 2 player online. Where's that for PC? Probably something to do with people not being able to log into their own 'accounts' for their own profiles?

At the very least, allow for a Guest account!

Yes! This is my single biggest complaint if using steam. I am likely to be going back to console gaming just as I miss this feature so much. I hope it will be introduced sometime soon as apart from this, having through steam is great.

There would be no need for Steam to allow a guest account. If a game developer wanted they could easily include split screen co-op for a game running on one Steam account. Only that Steam account would get achievements for it but there is absolutely no reason two people couldn't play from the same PC as a result of that.

Game Developers just assume (correctly) that most people currently using a PC won't be using split screen. Now that Steam is trying to get it's Steam box up that is probably less true than it used to be but it is unlikely game developers are going to change their old games as a result of that (unless someone is offering to pay them).

The use of guest is for online play - such as Call of Duty. Would it be necessary for that?

++

local multiplayer is the only reason I've used consoles in the last five years. Also, multi-monitor setups would be awesome for splitscreen (everybody gets their own!)

There would be no need for Steam to do anything to allow guest accounts. Basically all a guest account is, is saying "This guy is [STEAMID] while this other guy doesn't have a steam id but is playing via [STEAMID] computer so don't record achievements or what not for him" no need for anything for Steam to support this.

Well still the muitple accounts for online play would be good!
