Well, yes, but you can edit forum posts; that could have the exact same consequences. It just usually doesn't.
Forum posts can also be quoted to prevent that issue, where comments can not.
True.
And they can see how it was before it may have changed..
It bothers me that an otherwise fantastic site like Steam Community lacks a basic industry standard such as comment editing. Often, you can be in a rush and overlook proof reading or you spot something just as you hit the post button. I trust most people in this community are up front and honest and though there always are some few bad apples in every public endeavor, I strongly believe they are a minority and irrelevant.
I hope to see this issue properly addressed going forward. Btw, another thing I find very strange is that when typing comments if a word is misspelled, you will get squiggly lines to indicate it but the typical right click on the word or as in my case I press the windows context key, and corrections are offered. This behavior/feature is missing here. So, I suppose in the meantime I must write my posts in MS Word and copy/paste into steam.
Another suggestion is a preview feature to see how the comment(s) will look once submitted.
because the community has proven to be unreliable/ abusing tools whenever they can

Do you have some percentage figures for that? Which btw, also makes a good case for eliminating the use of anonymous handles for actual names. Not allowing anonymous handles would go far to encouraging the community members to police themselves. Most problems on the internet are caused by people having the ability to hide behind a handle to practice dishonest and predatory behavior.

and how exactly would you make sure people would use their real names and not nicknames?
unless you dont mind giving private businesses all your private info, which i personally do and many other people
and if you really think anonimity is the problem: oh believe me, many rude people are just as rude when they give their names to their opinions
