I just want an option to save chat logs to my own computer so I can look up which game it was that one of my friends mentioned to me when we talked several days ago. Or that youtube video another friend sent my way, which I didn't watch at that time because it's over an hour long.
Chat logging is a common feature for other text chat mediums, such as IRC.
if valve wanted permanent client-side logs they would already have implemented them a long time ago since the latest chat is indeed saved and displayed to you. at least for userchat, groupchat is another thing.
I'm saying I want them, as a user.
I'm fine with the option being disabled by default. I just would like that option to exist, in a form that's more convenient than copy/pasting everything into a notepad file every single time.
(Last updated 2012, crashes every time you close Steam.)
