Can you tell whoever is handling your profanity filter to cut it out already?
You know, I thought it was bad enough when I saw a developer's name "N i b b e" (whose name is a play on the word nibble) being censored, but I just logged in and saw a thread in the forums of another one of the games I play titled "***htmare design" because some jester award farmer in the company added 'n i g' to the filter. You have to agree this is just ridiculous.

♥♥♥♥ happens.
Unintended consequences will probably be revised, trying to thread the needle between censoring offensive terms and impeding overt racists and not looking ridiculous trying is easier said than done.

It's always going to be a work in progress and you might find if it was your job that it's a struggle to find the optimal balance (or to write the regex that covers all the cases you want to censor and nothing else).
It will be fixed in due time.

It's not like this hasn't happened before, once or twice or 4x.

Dont care
It's like steam censoring Fuuka. (which BTW is a Rune Factory 5 character AND a japanese name.) and this is in no way a rude or inappropriate word. It's weird.

People used that to bypass the filter too. They added that to motha.

Tale as old as time, and fractally applies at almost every level you can imagine: a single minded obsession with ensuring nobody ever sees a disagreeable word ends up rendering normal honest communication impossible.
Are you from the countries of which Abuja or Niamey are the capital of? You might be in trouble.

Also if you play Age of Empires or a similar game, you better stick to foot + ranged + siege builds now, because building that unit that requires stables might get you in trouble.

Heaven forbid you use the full title of Artorias's boss name in any other game provided by the same publisher.

They also censor 'niggle' which is a pretty normal English word with zero issues in it, but I assume they don't like those first three or four letters because of the very obvious problematic word that starts with it.

I mean... I will admit I feel more uncomfortable with that word myself than mine. (And no, I have no idea what your word means and I am scared to repeat it, tbh...)

I can slightly understand why my japanese name is censored, due to the west misusing it but otherwise, I feel like the censor could have been done better about it.

People using it as a substitute word probably made them filter it.

It's an arms race. And mind the word filter not only serves to filter insults, but plays a role in curbing scams and phishing.

Always shifting, always changing.

I think there is a word for being afraid of a perfectly benign word that is an established part of the English language and heritage with absolutely no history of use in an untoward manner.

The fact that the word in question is "rational and merited, representing a real life-impacting danger if not properly feared" says a lot of things about society.

Needless to say there is quite a lot of power to be had in banned words so people quite love making sure the chase never ends

There's also a term for taking a word or a symbol and reuse it until it loses their former meaning.
automated word filters aren't the same thing as censorship
