Steam-ID
In some cases, the user-id of steam is needed and its "difficult" to find them.
So i think, when on "preferences->account" the steam-user-id should be shown additionally to the name.
And in the "profile" it should be, as well, for the user itself to make the search "easier".
Better, than copy a link somewhere, paste and take out the numer...

In which instances is the SteamID needed?
Darelius Jun 16, 2014 @ 7:09am
For example Space Engineers requires for Player Admins in the dedicated Server the SteamID, not the username.
At the first time, i searched hours for this "number" ;)
Maybe its not needed whereother but in some forums, where steam games are supprted, steam-id is also required to "identify" the player with its id, IF you ant it (i didnt but maybe others want to, only number was requiored nothing else and wortks only, if the profile was not private)

It's not hard to find out your ID. A simple Google search brings up this -

Yes, and with this new steam, where the "url" is not given anymore in the upper corner, its useless ;)
by the way. IF i had that url, im able to sxtract the number manually, but thaks for that "tipp".

AND i would NOT use an EXTERNAL site for that id my idea was to use STEAM to find the steam url, not searching the web for my number, if you understand, what want ;)

You can turn on the URL in the client by going into the settings.

It is under interface. Check "Display Steam URL address bar when available".

And in what case is the SteamID needed?

Double checked other posts. Found the why.

If you talk about the adress bar in the client, it's still here : Steam > Settings > Display (6th) > Display URL address when available (3rd checkbox). As i use a non-english client, it may be worded differently, though.

Usually, if you connect to a server, your SteamID is visible to the admins. But maybe Space Engineers are an exception.

I know that in Goldsource games, you could type "status" on the console as soon as you connect and fetch your SteamID from there. Other tricks for different games may exist, thus providing an alternative to 3rd party sites.

Ah okay, on an uptdate, it "vanished", i didnt look in the settings for it, thanks ;)

The problem is still not to 2get" the id, but the "way" to get it, could be easier made by steam ;)

Honestly, it sounds like the developer of Space Engineers needs to add the tool into the game. A SteamID isn't needed by the average user so a way to get it from the profile isn't needed since so few would have a use for it.

I have my friend's ID, but when I search it in the Community search bar for players, they display the message that there is no player with that ID. How do I add my friend's ID to my friend list?

i do not really think you use the Steam ID for it (and its better if you make your own tread for things like these)
if you can just go to his profile and add him.. or search his name?

That does not change the fact that it is ridiculous and you should not have to go to some website to locate it. There is literally no other service that operates like this. Why would you not list the most foundational element of your account within the application profile itself?! SMH
